Psalm 62

1. While we do not know which case it is, David is facing the fact that someone near him has committed a crime of treason. As he does often, though, he keeps his overall focus on God.

2. Verses 1 and 2 give us a good “formula” to follow when trouble comes our way. We should wait for God’s answer and realize that He is ultimately in control and is our only place of safety.

3. Verses 3 and 4 are the words indicating the treason (possibly by Absalom?) that sets the idea for the psalm. It is obvious that the one committing this crime was close to David (“high position”).

4. It is interesting that verses 5-6 (following a brief description of the crime) basically restate the opening verses. David simply restates his trust in God.

5. Verse 8 may seem like a simple verse among the very poetic language of the Psalms, but it gives us the prescription–in plain language–for dealing with rough spots in life: “Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.”

6. David already knows, but he remembers that, no matter how “important” (or of high position) a man may be, he is still human, and it would be extremely difficult to trust him (verse 9).

7. The final verses (11-12) are a description of God’s power and trustworthiness. I like David’s description in verse 11 that God spoke something once (or spoke one thing), but David heard it twice!
