Pslam 30

1. Verse 1 continues an interesting theme for David in the psalms. He speaks of “extolling” God because He has “lifted me up, and [has] not let my enemies rejoice over me.” I find it interesting that David uses these reasons to praise the Lord. We need to strive to be more thankful when we know God’s hand is in a victory of some sort. That should be a reason to praise God!

2. Again in verse 4 we are reminded to sing praises and “give thanks.” These go hand-in-hand in many psalms.

3. Verse 5 contains a famous thought, teaching us that God’s anger is just for a while, but His blessings last our entire lives. In the same way, if we are followers of His, we may weep, but only for a while. Contrasted with that, our joy is coming (and we know it will last eternally).

4. Verse 6 is a memory of David’s as he looks back on a mistake. He remembers being arrogant, but then realizing that it took God to do great things.

5. Verse 11 contains very familiar language in the psalms, but it shows the great contrast that David saw in his life without God versus with God. We know that same contrast. Our lives are simply better (the best!) when we allow God to rule.

6. Because of that change, verse 12 teaches we should again thank God through song.

Personal thought: am I thanking God like I should?
