Thank You! (Bulletin Article for July 22)
[NOTE: Our annual VBS begins Sunday night at 9th Avenue, so my article this week reflects that. Also, there is a reference made in the first paragraph to our front-page article by brother Andy Kizer. He simply wrote an article with a short description of each story to be covered during the 4-day VBS. We pray that you will think about attending this great event. We will have VBS Sunday-Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 PM each evening.]
I know our Vacation Bible School hasn’t even begun yet, but so many are already due a “thank you.” If you haven’t done so already, take a moment and read brother Andy’s article on the front of this edition of the newsletter. He has given us a capsule of each lesson, so we will be even more excited about VBS.
There are other things that should excite us about Vacation Bible School, though, and one of those things is all the hard work that goes into an event like this. We are blessed with so many who volunteer to help us with this great effort, and we could not be any more thankful!
To give you some idea of how many people it takes to have a successful VBS, we have 23 people teaching! Add to those teachers all those who are helping with refreshments, those who are bringing refreshments, those who are decorating the hallways and old auditorium, those who are helping financially, those who are in charge of crafts, and those helping with registration, and you get some idea of the magnitude of this undertaking!
But there are even more people to thank than these! We need to say a special “thank you” to our elders for allowing us to have this special series of lessons. Many congregations have decided to stop having Vacation Bible Schools altogether because “they don’t work anymore.” Our elders, though, continue to see the opportunities that are all around and how VBS can help us make the most of some of those opportunities.
We also need to thank those who have advertised our VBS. Some have taken flyers to friends and neighbors. Others have made a phone call or sent a card, inviting a friend. Whether or not that person attends, you have done a great thing! You have given an opportunity to someone who needs to hear the Truth.
We need to thank those who have (and continue to) remembered VBS in prayer. We need to take special efforts like this one before God’s throne often. As you continue to pray for VBS, please remember each teacher. They have an awesome responsibility!
And, there’s one more. We need to thank you for making plans to be with us for VBS!
…you have made those plans…
…haven’t you?
