Thanks for…
Sunday night, I delivered a brief devotional lesson for our elementary young people. Since it is November, and since Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, I gave a lesson about things we can be thankful for.
In case you need help getting your list started today, here are the things we discussed.
Truth. We spent a few minutes talking about the Bible here. We should be thankful that God loved us enough to give us a book that is filled with truth, and that, as a whole, is truth (John 17:17).
Happiness. We used this word to talk about relationships that make us happy, and about making sure we thank those people who help us be happy each day.
Air. This one got them confused, until I explained it. We used the word “air” to talk about things that we often take for granted. We talked about how God blesses us with things like water, food, air and clothing but we very rarely thank Him for those things; just because they are “always there.”
Ninth Avenue. I took a few minutes to remind the young people that the congregation where they worship is truly a special place. But then I also took a few moments to build them up, by reminding them that they are part of the reason why 9th Avenue is a great place. We need to be thankful if we are a part of a good, solid, Bible-based congregation.
Kindness. We already mentioned close relationships, so this word was used to help us be thankful for people in general who demonstrate the right attitudes. They just help us feel better and they just help us know more how to act.
Savior. Jesus is the greatest Gift, and He is the One for Whom we should be most thankful every day.
While you have more than these, I’m sure, I hope this helps you get started this Thanksgiving. We truly are blessed and we should take a few moments to express our thanks to God for His bountiful blessings.
