The Strength of Faith
How strong is your faith? This is not a question that is asked very often, but maybe it should be. You see, our faith is only as strong as we allow it to be. Many have proclaimed to have a strong faith in the God of the Universe, but when put to the test, they/we often fail.
Our Tuesday afternoon Ladies’ Bible Class has been studying the book of Daniel. It is the account of the carrying away of some prime young men who were taken to Babylon to serve in King Nebuchadnezzar’s court. You probably remember the description of those young men – “youths without blemish, of good appearance and skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king’s palace, and to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans” (Daniel 1:4).
We all, also, probably remember the huge tests that Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego all underwent as they served in that foreign land. They are heroes to us because of what they did when put to the test concerning their faith in the One True God.
The maturity and bravery of these four young men stands out in the opening of this great book. As we continue to read the accounts, we realize that time goes by and they have aged, and have faced death but still maintained their faith.
Fast forward to today in 2025 in our world. How strong is our faith? I’m sure that there are people who are put to tests like Daniel and his friends were, but we don’t see it often in our land. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I know that many dangers are lurking out there and many people have a heart that is only on evil continually (Gen. 6:5). However, the majority of us have not been, and hopefully will not be, put to test like those people are.
We need to ask ourselves on a daily basis, do I stand up for the God who created me in His image, or do I stand idly by when His name is blasphemed. Do I dress like, act like, talk like everyone else even when I know that it is against what God has said for me to do? Would anyone know that I am a believer and worshiper of the One True God???
Daniel and his friends were miraculously delivered from death because God was using them to show His sovereignty and majesty over the whole world.
Can He count on us to stand up for His word and show the strength of our faith – no matter what?
