Titus 2 Will Transform the World

This post is going to stereotype, but that’s not the a emphasis. The emphasis is to make you think about a simple plan to change the world.

It’s about generations working together.

Many older folks simply cannot get out and do what they used to do. Health and other issues slow them down and they just cannot be involved like they would like. But many of them still enjoy two things: (1) interaction, and (2) giving.

Many younger folks are world-changers. They want to see the world impacted for Christ, and that in a hands-on way. We see high school and college students wanting to go on mission trips to places where people are truly hurting. They want to take water and the water of life. They want to teach language and the Word of God.

Here’s the problem in many places, though. The older folks and younger folks don’t interact, and the church isn’t doing anything to intentionally bring about interaction.

We have, in many places, so segmented the Church that generations don’t have much to do with one another. We have a young adult class that just keeps staying the “young adult” class, but never lets younger adults in. Instead, they just form another young adult class. So, as the young now grow older, there is no interaction. We put older folks in the auditorium and send everyone else out for their classes, and there is no interaction. We have Bible class teachers that grow older, so we let them retire so bring in “new blood,” and someone the same age as the students teaches the class. We have meals for the senior saints and get a senior saint to be the guest speaker. We have youth retreats and get someone barely in their 20s to speak and teach.

It’s about time we spent serious amounts of time in Titus 2. Older women are to teach the younger women, and older men the younger men. It is all about intergenerational interaction and instruction.

Think of how that could change the world. Older folks with wisdom to give and money to support could not only write a check to help these youthful folks, they could mentor them. The younger folks could realize that you don’t always have to go to some far-away place to serve someone in need, and they would learn to listen to the wisdom of the ages.

Church leaders, let’s seek ways to integrate the ages. Yes, there will be pushback. I have no doubt about that. But if we spend time in Titus 2, we will see that it is God’s plan.

…and God’s plan will transform the world.
