Two Items

Today, I’d just like to call attention to a couple of items that have come my way in the past few days. Both ultimately deal with being grateful, so they are both included here.

First, brother Hayden Childs, who preaches for the South Haleyville church of Christ, gave me a short poem originally written by Grover C. Beard. It appeared in the Gospel Gleaner (Vol. 15, #2), and is entitled “God Give Us!”

God give us eyes,
that we may see the needs of others about us.

God give us ears,
that we can hear a new born baby cry.

God give us lips,
that we can sing Thy praise, honor and glory.

God give us a mouth, with courage,
to speak thy truths even when it hurts.

God give us a compassionate heart,
so we can feel the pain of a brother who is hurting,
or rejoice when he is happy.

God give us knees,
that won’t wear out in prayer,
thanking Thee for blessings.

God give us feet with iron shoes
that will help us spread the Gospel to the world.

God give us time,
to stop and smell the roses,
and listen to a mocking bird sing his sweetest songs.

Finally Father, we thank Thee for Jesus;
the greatest gift of all,
and that He died on Calvary for our sins.
Amen.

Secondly, there is a song making the rounds on the internet. It is entitled “Before You Go,” and it thanks World War II veterans for their sacrifice for the American way of life. The download takes a while (if you have dial-up, like I do, it will take about 12-15 minutes. Maybe you can read your daily Bible reading for the day.), but it is well worth the wait. While this song does not have much to do with New Testament Christianity, being thankful is a quality that every follower of Jesus should have. We are to be thankful to God and to our fellow man. For a reminder, take the time to read Romans 6:17, Colossians 3:15, Psalm 18:49, Psalm 119:62, Second Corinthians 9:15 and Philippians 4:6.

Let’s take the time to be thankful every day.
