Wanted!

  • Expert in just about everything – often without formal training
  • Willing and able to organize, lead, and motivate – without being perceived as a leader
  • Long hours
  • Always on call
  • No real job description
  • “Target” for criticism from others (most of whom don’t really understand the situation)
  • No salary
  • No vacation time
  • No established sick leave
  • No company funded insurance or retirement plan
  • Often under (or not) appreciated

Do you know anybody who would sign up for that? I do!

In fact, I am blessed because I have had and/or currently have five such people in my family. Two of them, Virginia Faughn and Ruth Turner, have left this life, but have left behind an amazing legacy in a lot of ways. Three of them, Donna Faughn, Amber Tatum, and Leah Faughn continue to build on their legacy every day.

These five women came from different backgrounds. In fact, they were (and are) different in a lot of ways. They and many, many others voluntarily applied for and accepted the responsibilities of the “job description” above. Each of them wore or wear a title that means more to them than “president,” “CEO,” or so many other impressive titles.

In the case of the women mentioned above, there are only ten people in the world who could use that special title for one of these special women:

MOM

The calendar informs us that this next Sunday is designated as “Mothers Day.” Please take some advice from a guy who can no longer do this. Try to find ways to show your mother how much she means to you. In fact, try to do this on a very regular basis.

Husbands, I’m not letting us off the hook. We need to make sure we let our wives know how much she means to us as we work together to build something much more important than a house — a home.

Her children rise up and call her blessed;

her husband also, and he praises her (Prov. 31:28)
