Watch GBN (Bulletin Article for December 11)

At midnight on Saturday, November 26, Gospel Broadcast Network went live. This was truly an historic and exciting moment in the history of churches of Christ.

GBN is a 24-hour-per day, 365-day-per-year television network devoted to preaching and teaching the Gospel by members of churches of Christ. It is under the oversight of the eldership of the Highland church of Christ in Dalton Georgia (the same congregation that oversees “Preaching the Gospel” with James Watkins). The station is based out of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The network features such programming as “In Search of the Lord’s Way” with Mack Lyon, “Devotional Hour” (an hour of hymns with beautiful scenery and scripture) and “Digger Doug.” “Digger Doug” is a children’s program led by Kyle Butt, Eric Lyons and Rob Baker of Apologetics Press. You can also hear such great speakers as Glenn Colley, Tom Holland, Jerry Jenkins and many others throughout the broadcast week. Eventually the network is also planning special programming. This will include Restoration History tours and reports from mission fields.
Does this sound interesting to you? It does to me! However, it is difficult to get GBN right now. So far, it can only be viewed on KU satellites and on a few cable networks. You may also view the network for free from their website (www.gbntv.org). You will need to have a high-speed internet connection to view the network, but it will be well worth it. (Please note that the network wants to expand as rapidly as possible. They are already working with Dish Network and DirecTV to get a channel on their satellites. They also want to expand to as many cable outlets as possible. If there were ever a time to contact the local cable company and tell them you want a network, this is the time! Contact them over and over. With the work of many Christians, you can get this network where you live.)

Think of the possibilities of this network. You can have someone over for dinner and, if you are nervous about holding a Bible study, you can simply watch TV (or a tape of a favorite show from GBN). Your family can have devotionals led by “Digger Doug.” Even Bible class teachers could find usages of the programming (maybe recording a missionary’s report). However you use this tool the key is just that: use this tool! To God be the glory.
