When Getting a 100 Is Not a Good Thing (originally published September 21)
101 companies in the United States should be embarrased, but they are very proud. They all received a score of 100% when it came to dealing with gay, lesbian and transgender workers.
The article, reported by World News Daily, may be viewed on ChristianCourier.com. Large American companies such as MetLife and Best Buy received the perfect score and are glowing over their accomplishment.
It is truly sad that one of the company spokesman said that the old adage is true, “What is good for business is good for America.” Friends, this is not good for America! The Bible teaches that “righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). The Old and New Testaments both make it abundantely clear that God disaproves of homosexuality (cf. Genesis 19; First Corinthians 6:9-10). It is sin and will keep those guilty of it out of heaven. How can we say that this is good for America?
One other observation. Looking through the list of companies that received a perfect 100 rating, it is amazing how many are located on the coasts and in the north. However, such companies at Ralston-Purina (St. Louis, Missouri) and Cracker Barrel (Lebanon, Tennessee) received “terrible” ratings (although their company statements claim to not be biased against hiring based upon sexual orientation). Could it be that these mid-western and southern corporations are still influenced by the “Christians” that are around them and that make up their companies? While it is not true 100% percent of the time, a greater percentage of the companies with “bad” scores were located in “Bible Belt” and mid-western states; states where “Christianity” is still very strong.
Maybe Christians need to look at their influence again. Could we possibly redefine what is “good for America”? Or, maybe we just need to put God’s definition back on the map. For our nation to be exalted, the sin must be removed. Let’s have stronger and more Bible-based teaching on homosexuality.
