A Trend I Like to See

Today’s post is very brief, but, hopefully, is a post that will encourage you.

I  have noticed something more and more lately. Maybe it has been going on for a long time, but I have “keyed in” on it more in the past few weeks. It is a trend on Facebook, and it is seen in the status updates among those who are my “Facebook friends.”

Usually, these updates deal with what a person is doing at the time (“So-and-so is walking the dog;” “So-and-so is enjoying a day with family;” and so on). That’s fine, and we all do that every so often.

However, I am thankful that I am seeing more status updates that are counting the blessings that God has given. In fact, many are simply putting the words “God is good” in their status update on multiple occasions. In fact, here are just a few that I’ve seen over the past few hours. (I have chosen not to reveal the names, but these are real updates.)

“has had some good times with great friends over the past few days!!! God is good!!!”

“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
(Psalms 103:2-5 ESV)”

“has a busy, busy week ahead of her! God is great :)”

Trust me, there were more, and also trust me when I say it didn’t take much searching to find these three.

There are two things I want to apply from this for today’s post.

1. God really is good! We live in such negative times, but our God is truly amazing. As the southern Gospel song states, “He’s good all of the time.”

2. I’m thankful for Christian friends who are willing to put their faith in such public places as Facebook. These updates not only teach friends who might not be followers of Jesus, they also deeply encourage those of us who are His disciples.

If you update your status with statements of God’s goodness, or verses that teach the same, keep it up. If you don’t, why not start today? Our children know the truth: “God is so good!”
