A Vital Vitamin

According to one source I consulted, people in the United States spend somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 billion dollars each year on all sorts of vitamins and supplements. At least that’s what this source said was spent in 2021. Who knows what that figure is now?

All of those dollars are spent in an attempt to have more energy, look younger, have better health, sleep better, have smoother skin, and accomplish an almost endless list of other things. You may have noticed that there is a “common denominator” in all of those things. If you haven’t noticed it yet, be patient. I plan to mention it later.

I believe that there is one vitamin that is vital in so many ways. The vitamin I have in mind will not only improve our own sense of well-being, but it will make people around us feel better as well.

In addition to all of that, this vitamin cannot be purchased. That’s not because it is unavailable. It is readily available and totally free. It doesn’t come in a pill or capsule. It is not an ingredient in some syrup (that may or may not have been “doctored” to taste somewhat better). There is no need to consult with your physician about the safety, dosage, or effectiveness of this vitamin.

To be totally honest and transparent, there is a vitamin that, in many ways, is like the one I’m recommending. You can purchase Vitamin E in capsules and drops. Of course, vitamin E also is found in various foods we eat. This Vitamin E has a good number of benefits.

In order to be honest and in the interest of full disclosure, I am indebted to two preachers for giving me the idea for this post. I was listening to a lesson by Hiram Kemp during which he quoted his coworker, Neal Pollard, talking about this particular “Vitamin E.”

The “Vitamin E” that they and I have in mind is needed by all of us. Sadly, though, some of us may have a deficiency. That deficiency may be because people we are around may be reluctant to help us in this regard.

The “Vitamin E” that I am thinking of is —

ENCOURAGEMENT

Yes, I know that we can and should motivate ourselves. At the same time, I also know that there are times when it sure would help if somebody would send a note, make a phone call, or send a text that would encourage us. It might be even better if the words of encouragement were delivered in person – and maybe with a hand draped on a shoulder or some other appropriate gesture. Of course, all of this would be enhanced by a genuine offer to help.

Have you figured out the “common denominator” I mentioned earlier yet? All of those billions of dollars are focused on the individuals making the purchases. Encouragement focuses on another person or persons.

The real “magic” of this vital vitamin is that it makes the person receiving encouragement feel better and, at the same time, makes the person giving encouragement feel better as well.

What a win – win situation!
