According to Your Faith
Over and over in the Gospels, we read of Jesus attributing miracles to a person’s faith. Upon His own disciples’ failure to cure a man’s son He tells them “if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Recently I was reading a different account in Matthew that got my attention. In chapter 9, we read of Jesus going to the house of Jairus. (We actually learn his name from Mark and Luke who also record these events.) While on His way to raise Jairus’s daughter from the dead, a woman with an issue of blood is healed and told, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well” (verse 22).
After these two miracles comes the account I want us to consider. Jesus goes on His way and two blind men beg Him for their sight. After asking the men if they believe He can do this for them, he then tells them, “According to your faith be it done to you.” Spoiler alert: the Bible tells us their eyes were open.
According to their faith? Didn’t they just affirm their faith?
Let’s be honest. Sometimes we say we believe God can do something in our lives, but do we really? What if we aren’t seeing the results because we are being answered “according to our faith.” Something to consider …
