FHU Bible Lectures #18: Thursday Morning Notes
Thursday, 8:30 & 9:30Auditorium B At the 8:30 lecture, David Baker gave more specifics to the model of growth used at Savannah, TN. Much of the information came from research by Thom Rainer. Savannah is obviously intentional about moving people from the larger worship setting to lives of service. Baker also spent quite some time this morning reminding the listeners that leadership is the key and must communicate well. At 9:30, Dan Winkler finished the New Testament preaching track by walking through the final section of Hebrews. “Jesus is a better way” was the theme. While many shy away from Hebrews due to its heavy use of Old Testament language.…

FHU Bible Lectures #15: Psalm 137
Wednesday, 1:30, Auditorium A Drew Kizer listed the following practical applications to be learned from a very difficult text, Psalm 137: 1. Sin leads to bitterness and sorrow.2. Vengeance belongs to God (the writer doesn’t take it on himself).3. It’s hard to sing the Lord’s song when in exile.4. God hears prayers, even when uttered in pain. Drew spent the first several minutes dealing with questions about the inspiration and emotional difficulty with the psalm. Great material, and well presented. Don’t forget to go down a few posts and listen to my brief interview with Drew.

FHU Bible Lectures #14: Eric Lyons
Wednesday, 12:45, Loyd Aud. My friend, Eric Lyons, is walking us through Psalm 6. As always, Eric is doing a masterful job! Psalm 6 is the first (in order) of the penitential psalms, and Eric is reminding us that: 1. We do sin and suffer.2. God is patient.3. God will punish/discipline.4. God hears our cries for forgiveness…and He does so at anytime. Personally, I’m grateful we have men like Eric in works like Apologetics Press. This lecture has only reaffirmed that feeling.

FHU Bible Lectures #12
Wednesday, 8:30 & 9:30 I listened to David Baker’s lecture dealing with discipleship. This was the first in a two-part series and today basically laid the foundation. Baker referenced “Simple Church” often. Leah and I both think this is a book I need to read and incorporate. One of my favorite things David did was remind us that we must do what God requires (worship) as well as we can, then focus on programs, all under the mission of the congregation. At 9:30, I attended Dan Winkler’s second lecture of the week, which focused on preaching through Hebrews. Dan is a master expositor, and I always learn so much and…
