A Different Mindset
Yesterday morning, I awoke in our hotel room and got ready for worship as usual. Leah and the kids did the same. While we were not at “home,” it was a typical Sunday morning. After getting dressed, we headed down to the breakfast area. It was about 7:50 AM, and the room was packed. We sat at the only table we could find and I had to sit on the arm of a couch, because the table was only really made for two people. As I walked around getting food and as I listened, it was obvious that we were the exceptions to the rule in this room. While “dress”…

Friday Links Roundup: ANOTHER Two Weeks Edition
So, maybe I need start calling this the “every two weeks Friday Links Roundup” (or something a little more snazzy). We were away for Thanksgiving and I just decided to take some time away from blogging while we were away last Friday. Hopefully, we’ll get back into the schedule of doing this every week. Here are some wonderful articles for you to enjoy: 1. December starts tomorrow, and Joey Sparks has given a challenge to read the entire New Testament in that one month. He has a brief article that contains a link to a reading schedule so you can take the challenge. Read the article and follow the link…

Moooooo Cow
Eating with my family is fun. Sometimes we watch DVDs of great shows (like The Cosby Show) and other times we just sit around the table and eat. We always eat breakfast at the table, and some interesting things are said. One thing I have learned at that table is that my 2-year-old daughter is smarter than many people who hold major degrees. How do I know that? By the answer she gives to a simple question. We have some glasses we use for drinking juice. On those glasses are pictures of animals. There are cows, geese and pigs. When she sees the animal, she always says what it is.…

More than Demons? (Bulletin Article for December 2)
It is a wonderful thing to be a person of faith. To be able to say that we believe in God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Heaven and the Bible is a wonderful thing. We should proudly proclaim these things as often as we can. Atheists cannot (will not) claim such things. Since they do not believe in any “higher power”—including the God of Heaven—they will not proclaim such statements of faith. Has it ever occurred to you that the only atheists that exist are alive right now? There are no atheists in the “afterlife.” Those who have died may not have had faith in God, but they do now! As…

If you don’t have a favorite football referee, you are about to. Just listen to the description of a penalty called in the Maryland – N.C. State game on Saturday. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Ron Cherry:

Two Trips to Kentucky
Late this Summer, I was scheduled to speak at a youth event in Kentucky. It was an honor to be asked, and I gladly agreed. Since the congregation where I would be speaking was only about 30 minutes from where my parents live, I asked my elders if my family could take a few days vacation “around” the speaking engagement. They kindly agreed. On that trip, though, I ended up with another work to be done. A man from Paducah lost his wife in a horrible automobile accident. It was, in every sense of the word, a tragedy. The congregation and the family were both rocked by the experience. Since…

Thanks for…
Sunday night, I delivered a brief devotional lesson for our elementary young people. Since it is November, and since Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, I gave a lesson about things we can be thankful for. In case you need help getting your list started today, here are the things we discussed. Truth. We spent a few minutes talking about the Bible here. We should be thankful that God loved us enough to give us a book that is filled with truth, and that, as a whole, is truth (John 17:17). Happiness. We used this word to talk about relationships that make us happy, and about making sure we thank those…

Friday Links Roundup: Two Weeks Worth Edition
We missed last Friday with the links roundup. I was leading singing in Kentucky on Friday night, and we visited my family during the day, so I just didn’t get it done. We are looking forward to being back up in Kentucky this next week for Thanksgiving. It is, by far, my favorite holiday, and I’m glad that my family gets along and has holidays together. To make up for the “absent” week, here are a few articles for your weekend: 1. Dean Kelly, at Kelly’s Korner, posted an essay written by an English I student. The essay “From My Perspective” is excellent. Many of you will want to file…
