Very Interesting
I don’t want this to become a political blog, but I did come across something that is very interesting. We are told nearly daily about how we are destroying the planet through global warming. Today, though, I was introduced to some interesting documentaries that are available on the internet, presenting the other side of the story. (Thanks to “Train Up a Child.”) The following is a documentary that aired on CBC. It is broken into five parts. While there is some evolution in the story, it does present the other side of this story quite well. I thought it might be of interest to you (especially those of you who,…

Leading the News (Bulletin Article for April 22)
Turn on the TV or the radio. Go to a news website. Open a newspaper or magazine. You’ll see it everywhere. It’s bad news. Sometimes it seems that all media outlets want to show us is negative stories. It doesn’t matter if one is trying to see the “major headlines,” celebrity news, sports or even the weather. MSNBC reports the weather now with “The Worst Weather in America.” All this bad news can get us down. It is true that there are a lot of bad things happening around us every day. In fact, just this week, we were shocked by the shooting that took place in Blacksburg at Virginia…

Prayer Needed for Virginia Tech
As you well know, someone opened fire this morning at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia (map below). At this time, 31 are dead and several more wounded. Details are still very sketchy, but prayers are needed for all the families and the students who are still campus and scared. To read a recent release, click here.

More PowerPoint Presentations
I have uploaded some more PowerPoint presentations to my Slideshare account. You may click on the links below to view them. You Haven’t Seen It, Yet (a sermon dealing with Heaven) Lessons from the Life of Anna (a good sermon starter from the life of the aged Anna in Luke 2) Me, the Sinner (a simple “survey-style” sermon about how we should view sin) The Rich Man “Preaches” Today (what would he say if he could preach just one sermon?) By the way, I don’t claim for these to be the greatest slideshows of all time. Hopefully, by viewing them, though, you can get some ideas for Bible study. I…

Is It the School's Job?
Mathematica Policy Research released a study saying that students who attended abstinence programs were just as likely to engage in sexual activity as those students who did not attend. Also, the median age of a child’s first sexual experience was the same: 14.9. The government spends over $150million per year on these programs. [Read a press release from Medical News Today here.] Critics are saying that these programs are not working. That may be the case, but I believe the focus is not on the right place. Where are we told that the schools are supposed to be teaching children about abstinence? This is simply another case of the Bible…

May We Recommend…
Putting posts on this blog as often as we do takes quite a bit of time and effort. It is a joy to do, and we love it, but it does require some work. We also try to keep this blog up-to-date with features. We have added another now that you will want to notice. On the right-hand side about half-way down is a new feature called “May We Recommend…”. These are books and DVDs that we enjoy and that we think you will enjoy as well. We hope to change these out, and add to them, every so often. If one of the items is of interest to you,…

Post Corrected
Earlier today, I posted the PowerPoint presentations for my sermons on Sunday. For those of you who saw that and only got “white space,” let me explain. The presentations were there, but the files were so large that it was taking a very long time for them to load. To correct that, you can now read the post and click on a link that will take you to the presentations. Sorry for the mix-up. At least the mistake wasn’t this big:

To Catch a Predator Update
If anything has caused potential sexual predators to think twice about getting online recently, it has been Dateline NBC’s series “To Catch a Predator.” Now there are two new developments in the series of which every parent should be aware. First, Chris Hansen, the host of the series, has written a book documenting much of what he and the crew have seen. While I have not read the book yet, if the TV series is any indication, it will be an important book for parents, especially of young teens, to read. To order the book from Amazon, click here. To read a short excerpt posted on MSNBC, click here. Second,…

Sermons "Teasers" for Sunday
Following are links to the PowerPoint presentations for the two sermons I plan on presenting Sunday. I hope they encourage you. The website these are loaded on does not allow users to incorporate “animation” in the shows, just slide transitions. Sunday morning’s sermon is entitled “From Every Stormy Wind.” The slides that contain word art have each verse of that song from The Paperless Hymnal in the background. I am preaching one point about the Lord’s Supper from each verse. AM SERMON: From Every Stormy Wind Sunday evening’s sermon is entitled “Sounding Forth.” The major points come from Willmington’s The Outline Bible, but all supplementary material is mine. The lesson…

Better English…in China?
Okay, another “rant” for a post. Please take the time to read the following AP release, as it appeared on The Sporting News website: Speak Better English I’m just wondering: if someone said the same thing in America, he or she would be in serious trouble. But, while we sit back and let the proper use of our language suffer, others aren’t afraid to improve.
