“Greater Things” Thursday #41: Ladies’ Retreat

Lebanon Road’s 2011 theme is “Greater Things.” For an introduction and video to the theme, click here. Each Thursday, we are highlighting an area in which we are striving for greater things.

For several years, our ladies have taken an annual retreat in the fall. They go to a state park or similar area and enjoy a weekend of worship, fellowship, games, skits, relaxation, fun…and very little sleep.

One of the interesting things our ladies do is mix up the types of speakers they get for the weekend. A few times, they have asked guest speakers to attend. At other times (as is the case this year), our own ladies have prepared lessons and present them throughout the weekend. This year, some 5 ladies from Lebanon Road are speaking, and others are leading in various areas throughout the weekend.

The ladies also do a great job of having themes that are interesting, and they truly “build around” those themes, incorporating nearly every aspect of the weekend around the theme.

One of my favorite things to see is that ladies of all ages attend, and interact with one another. From our college-aged young ladies all the way up to some of our senior saints–and every age group in-between–our ladies attend and enjoy the company and encouragement of one another. That is truly exciting to see.

This year, our ladies’ retreat is this weekend at Whispering Pines Christian Camp in Castilian Springs, Tennessee. The retreat will begin on Friday night and end with worship on Sunday morning. We pray our ladies are encouraged by the fellowship, and are brought closer to God by the worship and lessons they will be involved in.

Our ladies really do “greater things” at the retreat, but it’s my prayer that even a great number will attend in future years. This is a wonderful weekend, and I’m proud of our ladies for all the work they put into the retreat!
