Forgetting the "Story"
This post may seem like more of a rant than anything else, but, please, read it with an open mind. I love singing. As much as I enjoy leading singing, I enjoy being “just another participant” just as much (sometimes more). To me, there is nothing more beautiful than when a song is sung from the heart by true worshippers. The song doesn’t even have to be sung “perfectly.” I don’t know as much about music as I would like, but I do know a little bit. I can read music and I know the basic “symbols” found within simple pieces of music. While I may mess up sometimes, I…

Very Scary
Reading Train Up a Child today, I came across the following story from Yahoo! News. Please take the time to read the entire story. It is very scary how far some people will go in their sinful activities. Parents, there is simply no way we can ever be too careful. A convicted sex offender attended at least two Arizona middle schools, sat through seventh-grade courses and turned in homework as he moved around the state pretending to be 12 years old, officials say. Authorities in Yavapai County have accused Neil Havens Rodreick II, who is really 29, of assaulting a girl. They are not releasing details. Rodreick was arrested last…

A Lot of Teaching (Bulletin Article for January 28)
Some don’t see the importance of singing, and that is seen when they do not sing. We are commanded to sing in order to praise God, but we are also told that we sing in order to teach others (see Colossians 3:16). Pearl McQuiddy has put together the following, and it should help us remember just how much we can teach as we sing together. [NOTE: This came to me via the bulletin of the Dalraida church of Christ in Montgomery, Alabama.] Because This Is My Father’s World, I will Praise Him, for all He has done for me. Love Lifted Me from the depths of sin there At the…

"Dirt" is Just That
The FX original series Dirt, starring Courteney Cox, is supposed to be a behind-the-scenes look at a “gossip magazine.” It is the story of Cox, the editor, and her lack of shame in getting any story she wants. Admittedly, the idea for the show is interesting. We hear so much banter back and forth between celebrities and gossip columnists, it seems interesting to have a celeb play a columnist in a series. The series has quickly become a ratings hit, and is the backbone of FX’s lineup, especially among original series. The show, however, is filled with sinful behavior, and that has only grown more and more over the past…

34 Years and 40 Million Lives Ago
Has it really been that long? On January 22, 1973, the United States Supreme Court made the landmark decision in the case of Roe vs. Wade. That’s 34 years ago. That’s longer than Alexander the Great lived. That’s longer than Jesus Christ lived here on the earth. Compared to our nation’s history, it is a significant percentage of time. 34 years represents about 15% of our nation’s history. And, in that time, over 40million children have been legally killed. You’ve heard all the statistics before. That unthinkably large number represents more lives than every war ever fought in our nation–combined. In fact, it represents multiple times all the war casualties…

FHU Lectureship Preview (February 4-9)
The annual Freed-Hardeman University lectures are a great time for my family and me. Leah and I always enjoy attending. It is one of the highlights of our year. On Monday of next week (January 22), I will be speaking at an area preachers’ meeting at the Double Springs church of Christ. The preacher there, Vance Hutton, honored me by asking me to “preview” the lectures. The theme for 2007 is “Hear O Israel: Preserving a Godly Heritage in Deuteronomy.” That Old Testament book contains many laws and difficult passages, but it is also very important to our time. In the lectureship schedule booklet, Dr. David Lipe wrote: As Moses…

Why the Church of Christ?
Some of you who read this blog may not be members of the church of Christ. Please take a few moments and listen to Ronny Wade, a preacher from Missouri. He speaks the truth, but in a clear manner. If you would like to know more, please email us at adfaughn@centurytel.net or visit some of the links on your right-hand side to do more research.

Links List Updated, Counter Achievement, and Dave Ramsey
On the right-hand side of this blog, there has been a list of “Links” for a long time. However, even though there were only about 10 links, they were all listed together in a “web mish-mash.” Now, hopefully, that has been corrected. If you will take the time to look at the right side, you will see that the links have been listed in different categories (churches, blogs, schools, etc.). Hopefully, this will help you find your way to some good stuff on the internet. All these are sites I try to “frequent.” Hopefully, they are of some help to you, as well. By the way, if you didn’t notice,…

Katrina and Noah
I was “geared up” to write an article dealing with the Markham family. Born to this family was a very special little child, whom they named Noah. He was saved from a clinic in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. At the time, Noah was a frozen embryo. With a great plan to write an article in mind, I sat down this morning. Then, I read Drew Kizer’s article on the same topic. He did a great job (as always), and I decided to link to it. Please take a moment and read the article found here. Thanks, Drew, for another great article.

Student Swearing Week
As much as I like sports, I like college basketball even more. It is, without question, my favorite. I’m one of those nuts who follows every school in NCAA Division I as much as possible. I love watching everyone you’ve heard of (like the Duke Blue Devils or the UCLA Bruins) and those you probably haven’t (like the North Florida Osprey). One of the things that makes college basketball so special is the atmosphere. Those great “gyms” that are filled to capacity with fans make the perfect setting to watch a game. And the schools where the student sections are right by the court have gotten it right. There is…
