9th Avenue Vacation Bible School
Starting Sunday night, everyone is invited to the 9th Avenue church of Christ for her annual Vacation Bible School. This is always one of the highlights of the year. We will begin at 6:30 each evening. There will be classes for all ages, from newborns through adults, as we study the concept of teamwork. We will be looking at four lessons from God’s Word to help us understand what to do and what not to do as we strive for a common purpose. You will also get to met Moe and Les Le’Goof, who will help our students prepare for their lessons each evening. The lessons we will study will…

And I Thought They were "Life" Partners
Two women who were married on the first day that same-sex unions were allowed in the state of Massachusetts, have seperated. There is no word yet on whether they will divorce. I thought that this was the “greatest” lifestyle and that people of the homosexual persuasion were in life-long committed relationships. Maybe there is another side about which “Bible-thumpers” have been warning for many years. To read the press release, click here.

The Wide World of Sports…Illustrations
Virtually every preacher has used at least a couple of illustrations from the world of sports. The competive nature and excitement of sports makes it full of things with which people readily identify. Also, in our sports-crazed society, people know the games and players, so they can easily picture the illustration when it is well-told. Over the past couple of weeks a new “star” has emerged in the world of sports, and he is providing a powerful illustration. Floyd Landis, and American cyclist, is just 30 seconds behind the leader in the Tour de France coming into today’s competition. (Going into Thursday’s stage, he was over eight minutes behind.) What…

We're Not Alone
According to a recent survey, this is not the only blog on the internet! I know that’s hard to believe, but there are hundreds of thousands of others. However, it is interesting that, according to the survey, the majority of blogs are simply used for personal online diaries. There are far fewer that are for a specific purpose, such as this one is. We hope that this helps people find our blog. People are looking for things with a purpose, so maybe more people will want to read the articles and news clips we provide on here. To read the results of the survey, click here. Speaking of news clips……

A Great Report
The youth in our area knock doors in a different town each summer. This year the young people knocked doors in Winfield, Alabama, to try to set up Bible studies and to invite each family to the upcoming Vacation Bible School. What a great success the week was! The young people knocked doors on Monday and Tuesday in temperatures well over 100 degrees, but they continued to work hard. I was especially proud of our young people from 9th Avenue (Blake Hodges, Jordan Harper, Dylan Burleson, Bradley Tedford, Noah Moody and Riley Raper). In all, 1216 doors were knocked and 10 Bible studies were set up. Also, from Monday’s contacts…

Reaching the Half-Way Point
Last night, the 9th Avenue congregation continued to sing through her Top 99 favorite songs. We will not be singing them next Sunday night, so there will not be an update on here next week. We got through #49 last night, meaning we passed the halfway point. As one of our members said, we actually passed it between the 2nd verse and the chorus of #49, since half of 99 is 49 1/2. Anyway, here are the favorites we enjoyed last night: #57–Beautiful Isle of Somewhere #56–All Because of God’s Amazing Grace #55–Be Still, My Soul #54–Walking Alone at Eve #53–Where He Leads Me, I Will Follow #52–Holy, Holy, Holy…

An Apology
Usually, we post between 3-5 times each week. However, my computer is not doing very well, but, there is good news. I am getting a new computer, thanks to the elders here at 9th Avenue. I am expecting it within the next couple of days. Lord willing, we will begin posting again next week. Thanks for continuing to come to our blog! We’ll see you next week.

Songs 66-58
Last night, the countdown continued, although there is some bad news to report. Due to a failure of mine, we failed to record the songs. Brother Neal Cook and I are working on a way to solve that problem. In any case, here are the 9th Avenue favorites sung last evening: #66–How Beautiful Heaven Must Be #65–Where Peace Like a River #64–The Old Rugged Cross #63–What a Friend We Have in Jesus #62–Living By Faith #61–Jesus Loves Me #60–Where No One Stands Alone #59–Paradise Valley #58–Sweet Beulah Land Once again, I apologize for the songs not being recorded, but we will fix the problem one way or another.

Several Interesting Items
Time for another “weekend update.” Hopefully the following short items will interest you. 1. Spike TV is a network that has, since its inception, been increasingly vile. Their latest ad campaign, however, has to be their most sinful to date. The last line of the TV spot basically says that they are going to be punished forever, but, if they have the Spike network, it won’t be too bad. How truly sad it is that so many do not live in total fear of what hell is really going to be like. 2. Another sign of Hollywood’s obsession with being increasingly evil? When the Emmy nominations were announced, there were…

Book Review: "Have You Ever Considered?" by Jim Faughn
If you have been reading posts on our blog for very long, you have read an article or two by my dad, Jim Faughn. Many of you also receive the bulletin from the Central church of Christ in Paducah, Kentucky, where he preaches. You know of his talent for writing and putting ideas across that make you think. Now, you can enjoy several of those articles in his first book, entitled “Have You Ever Considered?” While living in Dexter, Missouri, brother Faughn (or, brother Dad, as I like to call him) hosted a 90-second radio spot and always began each broadcast with that question. This book contains several of those…
