Must See and Must NOT See TV
Dateline NBC aired their fourth “To Catch a Predator” episode on Wednesday night while, hopefully, you were at Bible class. If you missed the episode, please watch the listings for MSNBC, as they have usually re-aired the episodes in this series several times, mostly on Friday or Saturday evenings. In this fourth installment, the crew went to a small town in Ohio, instead of a big-city suburb. Some people were shocked to learn that there are online sexual predators even in this rural communities. Parents, it’s a problem everywhere. There is no other way to say it! I don’t care if you live in New York City, New York, or…

Book Review: "Am I Ready to Be Baptized" by Kyle Butt and John Farber
I rarely read and/or review children’s books, but this one intrigued me a lot. This short book is helpful and will aid you as you work with children who are starting to ask questions about baptism and salvation. Often, children hear lessons in Bible classes or at Christian camps that cause them to think about becoming a Christian. While that is a wonderful thing, we still need to make sure that child is ready. This book helps with that dilemma. The best part, to me at least, is that the book is written for the child. It is written on a lower reading level and is beautifully illustrated. It walks…

Is This Really Breaking News?
This post may seem more like a rant, but it does have a Biblical component. Please read on. Is anyone else tired of knowing every move that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes make? It seems that, every time I get on a news website, one of the headlines is dealing with their relationship. And, by looking at some of the papers carrying those stories, it would seem that everyone on earth cares! Today is no exception. One of the leading headlines deals with their upcoming wedding. And, who cares? I guess people in Asia care, because the following came from The Hindustan Times! Hollywood hunk Tom Cruise is reportedly desperate…

Over 100 Posts and Still Learning
There are always new features to learn when you run a blog. I had a couple of people tell me they had left comments and that the comments did not show up. Trust me, it wasn’t because your comments were unappreciated. I want people to comment as much as possible, both in agreement and in disagreement. I just had the settings wrong, so the comments were being stored, but not published. ALL former comments have now been published. If you wish to leave a comment, you will be asked to match a word. This keeps automated systems from “commenting” with what basically amounts to spam. If THIS setting doesn’t work,…

Surprise, Surprise…MTV loves "Brokeback"
I know. The title to this post must have come as a total shock. MTV, the youth channel that used to show music videos, endorses the homosexual cowboy movie “Brokeback Mountain.” How have they done it? They have given the movie two nominations for their annual movie awards, which will air on June 8. It is estimated that just under 480 million households in 171 nations will watch the awards. The MTV Movie Awards show is geared toward young people, so these nominations are nothing but propaganda. Parents, put your foot down! Do not let your children watch. In reporting on the awards, PakTribune says: The most notable thing about…

Weekend Roundup
I had a couple of shorter items to put on here, so I’m just putting them in one post. First, make sure you are signed up to receive the monthly e-newsletter “For Youth Ministers, By Youth Ministers.” The May issue should be released next week. This issue will include a great article by brother Dale Jenkins about the problems associated with pornography, both for youth leaders and for young people. To get on the mailing list, email Kurt Hankins. In other news… Have you seen the newest advertisement by the United Churches of Christ? This group comes along with radical commercials that can confuse many who do not know the…

Book Review: "Letters to Young Preachers" by Gary Hampton
This book is like very few others. It is designed for a class study over the books of First and Second Timothy and Titus. But, unlike most other class books, it does not contain 13 chapters; it contains 17. Also, the style of the book is very different. On the inside cover, the book contains this subtitle: “A Class Commentary on 1,2 Timothy and Titus.” The description of a “class commentary” is very appropriate. The book does not follow the usual outline of a class book. Most books contain some interesting opening story to each chapter, then some observations from the text, then some practical applications. Brother Hampton’s book, however,…

Evolution's Assumptions
A snake has been found that is, according to evolutionists, closing the argument as to how snakes evolved. It was found in Patagonia (Argentina), and has short legs. Evolutionists somehow know that this fossil is between 90 and 92 million years old. Those same scientists have been arguing about whether snakes developed in a marine habitat or if they came to land and burrowed. This new fossil shows they must have burrowed. The fossil even seems to have an injury. This tells the scientists that the legs were used by the animal; therefore, they are an integral part of evolution. Wow! All that from one fossil? Are these the lengths…

Just When You Think You've Seen It All
It is truly amazing to see just how far scientists will go in order to “prove” evolution. We have all seen bones, pottery and other materials which appear to be very old. Those are then given “dates” to “verify” the antiquity of the earth. But, now, scientists have unveiled a new one (to me, at least). How about ice?! That’s right, a piece of ice has been dug up and shipped to Japan from the Antarctic region. So, how old is this block of frozen water? How about 1,000,000 years! Notice what Hideaki Motoyama, the project leader, was able to deduce simply by looking at this “ancient” block of frozen…
