A Very Special Prayer Request
At Lebanon Road, we have spent a lot of time in prayer recently for a wonderful five-year-old boy. Blake Rader was diagnosed last week with a brain tumor, and underwent an 8-hour surgery last Friday. Dozens of people came to the hospital to be with his parents, Michael and Connie, and the outpouring of love through prayer, notes, online messages, and other acts of kindness has been nothing short of amazing. Yesterday, Blake had to go back to the ER here in Nashville with more difficulties. He and his parents spent the night at Vanderbilt Children’s hospital, awaiting more results from more tests. If you want to know more of…

Mini-Post: C.S. Lewis on Giving [Quote]
“I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare. In other words, if our expenditure on comforts, luxuries, amusements, etc., is up to the standard common among those with the same income as our own, we are probably giving away too little. If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say they are too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot do because our charitable expenditures exclude them.” C.S. For Guys Ages 20-33 in Middle Tennessee (Announcement)
Tonight after our evening services at Lebanon Road, I met with our young adult men, ages 20-33. At that meeting, I told them the substance of this post, and also that this was going live on the blog tonight. To get to the point: I’m beginning a Christian mentoring program for young adult men, and I want you to know about it. The program is one year in length, and will be a time of true Christian growth and maturity. While I know it is somewhat rare to “publicize” such a group, I have to start this somewhere. My prayer is that it is a success and “word of mouth”…

Lebanon Road 2012 Reading Plan: An Introduction
Welcome to 2012! At Lebanon Road, we are emphasizing our theme of “Back to Basics: Where are Your Roots?” One of the ways we are striving to do that is to encourage people to spend time in the Bible, but in a different way than we often do. Most congregations encourage members to read through the Bible word-for-word in some fashion (cover-to-cover, chronologically, etc.). That is a worthy goal, but we are trying something different. Since we are emphasizing basic Bible knowledge, we are giving our members several readings to do through the year. Each of these is short, but emphasized a particular part of the Bible for just a…

Mini-Post: Grace and Works (Quote)
“The relationship between grace and works will always be somewhat of a mystery to man. It seems that this is an intentional part of God’s plan to test human hearts and prove the sincerity of faith. There is a special chemistry between grace and works that keeps a man striving while preventing him from despairing. It is not a question of doing enough but of bringing one’s heart into submission to God. Heaven is not a hall of fame for spiritual superstars. God wants surrender, not statistics.” Aubrey Johnson Spiritual Patriots, pages 31-32
