Friday Links Roundup: “Wii Believe” Edition
On Sunday, our summer camp begins. At Lebanon Road, we hold our own camp at Valley View. Nearly every camper is from Lebanon Road (there are a few visitors and some folks from Pearlington, Mississippi, as well) and virtually the entire staff is from our congregation, too. We provide the counselors, cooks, clean-up crew, teachers, lifeguard…the whole leadership except for our nightly speakers. It is a huge undertaking, but one that always yields a great “harvest” among our young people. Our theme for 2010 is “Wii Believe,” and our themes will be, of course, from the Nintendo Wii. Our sports teams are named after popular games on the Wii, and…

Thursday Hymn Reflection: “Be Still, My Soul”
[Each Thursday, we “reflect” on a hymn suggested by our readers. If you would like us to write about your favorite hymns, just leave a comment with up to three of your favorites, and we’ll write about them.] Okay, so today’s hymn was not suggested by a reader. Friday Links Roundup: Back to Haleyville Edition
We are leaving this afternoon to go back to Alabama. Tonight, we are visiting with Leah’s parents, and then we are going tomorrow to Haleyville. I’ll be preaching in a series of Gospel Meetings beginning Sunday morning and continuing through Thursday night. For nearly 7 years, I worked with the 9th Avenue church of Christ in Haleyville as the youth minister. It is exciting to be going back to that good congregation for this meeting. We look forward to seeing so many familiar faces and renewing many friendships. Please pray that this meeting is an encouragement to that church. They have asked me to speak on the Christian home, and…

Thursday Hymn Reflection: “Listen to Our Hearts”
[Each Thursday, we “reflect” on a hymn suggested by our readers. If you would like to add your favorites to our list, leave a comment with up to three songs, and we’ll reflect on them in the future.] A favorite devotional song for several years now, “Listen to Our Hearts” is a beautifully poetic song about how difficult it is to try to express the beauty and grandeur of God. In fact, that is the message of the song, but Geoff Moore and Steven Curtis Chapman, the writers, were able to state that same concept over and over to form the lyrics of the song. When I sing this song,…
