Tuesday Morning Update: FHU
Amazing! This is part of what makes the FHU lectures so impressive. In the last few hours, I’ve enjoyed lessons from Dan Jenkins, Dan Winkler, and Jay Lockhart. Also, Marlin Connelly began a series yesterday that I’m enjoying. It is a real treat to sit at the feet of such faithful and capable men. If you’re not here, you’re missing a true feast. ————— I hope to post more pictures and short interviews later today.

Evening Update from FHU
Just attended dinner given by the International Gospel Hour. This is a fabulous, faithful work that every eldership should consider. Now involved in congregational singing, before Dan Jenkins preaches.

Friday Links Roundup: “Live from Henderson, It’s iPreach!” Edition
For about 18 months, Dale Jenkins and I have cohosted iPreach, the podcast for preachers. We have done about 65 episodes covering many topics to help ministers in their work. Our estimates now are that about 200 people listen to most programs, either live, via the talkshoe.com website, or through iTunes. One thing we have never done, though, is recorded by together! We have never been in the same room when recording the program. Lord willing, that will all change Tuesday night. Freed-Hardeman has granted us the ability to do a live version of iPreach from the FHU Student Center! We will begin about 8:45 Tuesday night, and anyone and…

Thursday Hymn Reflection: “There Is a Habitation”
[Each Thursday, we give a brief “reflection” on a hymn. If you would like to add your favorites–up to three–to our list, please leave the names of those songs in the comments and we’ll reflect on them in the future.] One of the grandest songs about heaven, “There is a Habitation” combines powerful music with more powerful words. This is a song that is nearly always sung as singings, because you can’t sing it softly. As we excitedly sing about heaven, the song builds and builds. Written by J.H. Rosecrans, the song seems to be the writer’s feelings of longing for heaven, but it also contains some deeply impactful statements.…

Share Your Anticipation
Next week, the annual Freed-Hardeman University Bible lectures will be held on the Henderson, Tennessee, campus. For our family, it is one of the highlights of the year. We love the Biblical feast in which we learn so many lessons. We love the Christian fellowship we share with family and friends from all over the country. We love the singing. We love the book fair. And on and on it goes! I’m looking forward to several lectures this year, none more so than hearing my dad speak on Thursday morning. I always enjoy hearing Marlin Connelly speak about preaching, and I’m excited about the “dual” themes being presented in the…

Why We Moved
It doesn’t seem like that long ago that we moved our blog to WordPress. Okay, it wasn’t that long ago (7 months, to be exact). So, why did we move again? We have several reasons for doing this, and we also want to take you on a little “journey” around our new site. First, why we moved: 1. We have our own domain name. No more .blogger or .wordpress at the end of our site. Enjoy just typing in www.faughnfamily.com. Having this actually helps in search engines. 2. We can make the site look any way we wish. The free version of WordPress restricts what can be done to the…

Friday Links Roundup: Snow, Buzz and Corinthians Edition
I’m typing the links roundup from home this week. As I look out my window, a little snow has started to fall, but we are expecting quite a bit more later in the day. That’s not the reason I’m at home, though. Leah has an appointment this morning, so I’m watching the kids. While I’m excited about it, there could be some interesting challenges. You see, we are also going to record iPreach this morning. Along with guests Billy Smith, Marlin Connelly, and Clarence DeLoach, Dale and I will be previewing the Freed-Hardeman University Bible lectures. So, while we discuss the lectures and their theme books of First and Second Corinthians, the…

Thursday Hymn Reflection: "In Christ Alone"
[On Thursdays, we “reflect” on a hymn suggested by our readers. To add your favorites (no more than 3, please) to the list, simply leave a comment.] What a fantastic new hymn! “In Christ Alone,” in my opinion, will stand the test of time because it is a simple melody in the usual construction of four verses. The beauty of this song is that it builds together (1) the sacrifice of Jesus and (2) our response to it. The song begins with a verse of praise to Jesus. With that verse, we sing that our full faith is in Him, then we move to the reason why. Verse one uses…
