Friday Links Roundup: Tear-Jerker Edition
I’m not much of a story-teller. While I try to be as much like Jesus as I can, He was the master story-teller and that is one trait I do not have! Sunday, though, I am going to try to tell a story. I’m planning on presenting a sermon at Lebanon Road that deals with one of the most moving events of my life. It deals with how Mary Carol came to be a part of our family. While I’m not planning any crocodile tears, it’s hard to tell the story without some tears. It truly was a special time, and I hope to use it as the backdrop to…

Reading History; Making History
I finished reading a spiral-bound book dealing with the history of Lebanon Road a few days ago. In 2003, the congregation celebrated her 50th anniversary. As you might expect there was a large weekend, and a book was produced that gave much of the history of the congregation. It has been informative and uplifting to look through past events and to see how many have come to the Lord through the efforts of this wonderful place. It has also been helpful to see names of people I now know and to see when they were baptized, or when they moved their membership to Lebanon Road. Then, last night we were…

A Prayer for President Obama
[NOTE: I wrote the following prayer to appear in our bulletin at Lebanon Road this past Sunday. Several have said they appreciated it, so I thought on this Inauguration Day it would be appropriate to reproduce it here. May Christians treat all governmental leaders in a Biblical way.] Father, We are grateful for the honor of living in the United States of America. We are thankful that you have blessed us with the privilege of electing our officials at all levels of government. May we never take this lightly. This week, we will say goodbye to President George W. Bush and we will welcome President Barak Obama. We are grateful…

Lebanon Road Report: January 18
It was another uplifting day at Lebanon Road. Our singing was very good and all who led our worship did a tremendous job. Beyond our worship services, it was great day, too. Before we get to Sunday, though, we have to mention the new addition. If you scroll down to the previous post, you can see a picture of Cleo Cofer, born Saturday morning to Shea and Mandy Cofer. What a cutie! Mandy was baptized into Jesus Christ just a few weeks ago, meaning that Cleo was born into a Christian home. What a blessing for this precious little one! Everyone is doing well, and should be able to go…

Friday Links Roundup: Gazelle Intensity Edition
Leah and I are quite focused on getting out of debt. We aren’t perfect with the process, but we are trying to finish as quickly as we can. This week reminded me of one of the times we were, as Dave Ramsey puts it, “Gazelle intense.” When we moved to Nashville, we only had one car. I looked and looked for a cheap car to drive to work and around town so I could pay cash for it. I wasn’t looking for anything new or fancy, just something that could last a year or so while we finished getting out of debt. The car I bought cost less than $1000…

A Note about iPreach
iPreach, the podcast for preachers, has been on hold for a few weeks due to holidays, travel, and sickness. Dale Jenkins and I enjoy doing these podcasts, and it is time to start up again. These are done when we have the chance, so there will be little breaks like this from time-to-time. We hope you understand. We are planning on recording a podcast on each of the next two Fridays. Tomorrow, our plan is to have a podcast about the new Church of Christ social network site, and we will be interviewing the man who started the site (you’ll have to tune in to find out who it is!).…

Book Review: "Nancy" by Michael Deaver
[NOTE: One of my resolutions for 2009 is to try to read an average of one biography (or autobiography) each month. These books contain stories of interesting lives and also usually have several possible illustrations for sermons and lessons.] Subtitled A Portrait of My Years with Nancy Reagan, Michael Deaver’s book contains a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most interesting first ladies our nation has ever had. Deaver worked as an aide for the Reagans back into the days when Ronald was governor of California, and he served right through the White House years. Through those years and beyond, he became a friend of both Ronald and Nancy. It…

Lebanon Road Report: January 11
It was cold yesterday, but only on the outside of the building. We even saw snow, though it was just about 11 flakes! The cold weather (nor the Titans loss…grrrr) could not keep us from having a very uplifting day at Lebanon Road, however. Our attendance suffered a bit, but we were blessed with a tremendous number of visitors. Our Sunday morning attendance was 330, and we were blessed to have 282 for our evening services. With the cold weather, we are dealing with the illness of several members, but we are thankful for good attendance despite those who cannot attend due to sickness. Last evening, we had quite an…

Friday Links Roundup: Where the Passion Lies Edition
This is the 896th post in the history of Faughnblog. We are happy to have several posts that have 2, 3, or 4 comments. Our readers just aren’t “commenters,” I guess (although I wish that would change…hint, hint!!!). I didn’t go through the list of all posts in the history of the blog, but the most comments I remember a post ever having was five… …until I brought up the case for the Utah Utes winning the national title. So far, there have been seven comments (and 8 Facebook comments on it, too). Now, we’ve posted articles on this blog dealing with abortion, controversial movies and TV shows, and Bible…
