Don’t Fear!

Many Christians have the mindset that they can just be baptized, then sit and wait for either their own death or for the Lord’s return, and that’s all there is to it. Others think that they should never take a risk, because God wants them to be healthy and happy and that’s how they are going to win people to Christ.

But how many times do we see people in Scripture considered faithful for being fearful?

God requires us to get in the battle and fight for him. And what should happen if we get hurt in that battle? It’s okay, because we are doing what He requires.

Stonewall Jackson stood in the heat of a battle and remained calm. The great general was asked by a subordinate how he could remain calm with bullets flying. Jackson’s response is brilliant:

Captain, my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me. Captain, that is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave.

Do you see the depth of faith there? But do you also see how that faith leads to courage?

What can you do today in the name of the Lord that would be brave? Could you talk to a neighbor about Christ? Could you write a letter to a politician concerning a moral issue? Could you support a missionary? Could you discipline your children? Could you say “no” to temptations at school?

These may not seem outlandish, but they are the building blocks of a faithful and brave life.

Do not fear! God is on your side, and He will see you through.

QUESTION: Why do so many Christians have such fear in our lives?

bro. Faughn, your article, “don’t fear is wonderful piece and inspiring too. I just read it and felt more energized to do more for the Lord. But i think addition of few bible quotations could make it more attractive for wednesday evening sermon. well done brother.
