“Greater Things” Thursday #38: New Computer Carts
Lebanon Road’s 2011 theme is “Greater Things.” To see an introduction and video to this theme, click here. Each Thursday, we are highlighting an area in which we are striving for greater things.

One great thing about Lebanon Road is the emphasis we have on Bible school. For many years, Lebanon Road has written our own curriculum, and has had many aids available to teachers. While there is always room for improvement, our Bible school program is tremendous. As a parent, I am blown away by how much my children (ages 5 and 4) learn, due to the great teaching they receive each week!
Recently, another tool was added for our teachers, and it is already being used by several. We have a strong commitment in 2011 to building up our technology at Lebanon Road, and we have done so in many areas. One of those is to help our teachers have nice computer equipment to use in our classrooms. That goal can be checked off the list!
Our technology committee met several times to discuss the needs of our teachers, they shopped wisely, and did a great job of building computer carts that fulfill two requirements. First, they are portable, so we don’t have to have one in each room (to save some cost). However, they are also nice enough (including huge monitors) that they will be useful for quite some time.
A permanent computer was added to our teachers’ workroom, where content can be created (including free Google sites with resources that are class- and age-specific!). The computers on the carts, then, can be used to display this content and aid in the teaching of God’s Word. Additionally, nearly every classroom has been wired for internet (with a very strong password system!) so our teachers can access online resources, pictures, games, videos, and other material for their classes.
I have seen some of what is being done with these, and (as usual) our teachers are out-doing themselves!

For “greater things” to occur, these new resources just need to be used even more, and we need more training for our teachers who might still be intimidated by using such things in their classrooms. Some will never use them and that is okay!!! I’m just glad we have these available now for our teachers who wish to add computer work to their classroom instruction.

Good stuff, man!
We’re currently exploring technological possibilities for our Bible Classes, and think churches can do some helpful things with their aid.
I love the idea of using touch screen monitors (or even tablets/iPads) so that students directly interact with what’s happening on screen.
Thanks for posting!
