How Are You Known?

The idea of this article is certainly not unique to me, and the example I chose may not be unique to you, but as I was reading my Bible, some names jumped out at me from an unfamiliar place. I would guess that when the names Nadab and Abihu are mentioned, what first comes to most people’s mind is the account in Leviticus 10 where they offered profane fire and were struck down by the Lord.

I haven’t made it to Leviticus with the plan I am following this year. I am still in Exodus on Mondays, which focus on the books of Law. I did not realize that Nadab and Abihu were among those who were invited up the mountain in Exodus 24. In verses 9-10, we read “Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up, and they saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness.”

Nadab and Abihu saw God and yet they are known for their disobedience. It gave me pause and caused me to think about the importance of the choices I make, not once, but throughout my lifetime. May I always strive to be “…steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord [my] labor is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58).
