Leavin’ On a Jet Plane

It’s that time of year! Not only is spring in the air, so is spring break! Many people are taking advantage of the warmer temperatures to be outside and go “adventuring.” Some are driving to see friends and others are visiting theme parks. Many are making short trips to known destinations and others are jumping on a plane to follow the sun.

This short post is to remind all of those people (and myself) that there is nowhere you can go and not still be within the realm of God’s goodness, knowledge, and presence. The Bible speaks of the earth, heaven, and “heaven of heavens” not being able to contain God (1Kings 8:27; 2 Chronicles 2:6). God Himself speaks of His filling the heaven and earth (Jeremiah 23:24). What a comforting thought! No matter where I travel, God is there: “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me.” (Psalm 139:7-10)

And yet, although He is everywhere, He also has the power to make my sins disappear! How does that work? He can be everywhere and yet, with His forgiveness He no longer sees my sin. Psalm 103:11-12 reads, “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.”

While I may not, as a limited human, be able to understand God’s greatness, forgiveness, and majesty, I sure am thankful for them! When I travel or when I am in my own bed at night, I am thankful to know that God is with me and He loves me enough to forgive my sins. Do you have that peace? He offers it to all who will come to Him, obey Him, and love Him.

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;

    I have called you by name, you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

    and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;

when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,

and the flame shall not consume you.” ~ Isaiah 43:1b-2
