Live Every Day As If It Were Your Last

Wow, do we ever get caught up in this world in which we live. Days rush by and we seem to stay so busy that we feel as though we are caught up in a whirlwind. Even at my age (which is much older than many of our readers), I sometimes have to just stop and catch my breath. Retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be!!

However, I was reminded recently that each day we live is a gift from God, and no one knows when it will be your last day here on earth. The son-in-law of some of our dear friends passed from this life suddenly while he was on vacation. He was enjoying some time off and looking at God’s beautiful creation when he left this life. I didn’t know him personally, but only heard great things about him and his family. He was an elder in the congregation where he attended and worked as a physical therapist in our community. Many people came to pay their respect to his family at both the visitation and funeral.

As I sat at that funeral, I was reminded again of the importance of a life well lived, and the even greater importance of being spiritually prepared for this life to end.

In all of our busyness, we need to start each day with thankfulness to God for the breath of life, and end each day with prayers of gratitude for our ability to still be able to serve others with purpose.

“Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit’ – yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” (James 4:14)
