Shared Poetry

I did a Ladies’ Day in Elk City Oklahoma a few days ago. It was a great day and the ladies did an excellent job with the decorations, lunch, and other activities. One of my favorite parts of the day was a poem that was written by one of their ladies, Pam Hagerman. It was so moving as she presented it and I asked her permission to share it with all of you. It did not have a title on the sheets she gave me, so I present it here to you in its entirety.

In guilt and fear

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8)

In my guilt and in my fear

When I come to you

I feel Your love is very near

When You come to me

Though my shame is very great

It is my sin, not me You hate

You gave up heaven!  You gave up your life to rescue me!

And though I want to be like You

Selfish things I often do

I hate myself, -and yet You still love me

And I hope in You with all my heart (Your righteousness)

And I hope in You with all my soul

And I hope in You with all my mind and all my strength

So I have hope for everyone I meet

Because Your love is so complete

I want the world to know that You love them so

And it can all begin with me.

In the routine of the day

When I don’t come to You

I’m too ‘busy’ to stop and pray

When You come to me

Though I want to put You first

I make bad choices, sometimes the worst

I fill my mind and time with other things

And yet Your faithfulness abounds

Your grace and mercy are all around

You – the Creator of the Universe –

Wait for me, to be still and come to You

And I thank You with all my heart

And I thank You with all my soul

And I thank You with all my mind and all my strength

So I can thank everyone I see

Because through them You’re loving me

I want the world to know that You love them so

And it can all begin with me.

In the stillness of the night

When I come to You

You make everything alright

When You come to me

It’s our time to be alone

There’s no noise, no one, no phone

Just You and me, I’m where I long to be

And as I’m melting into You

We become one no longer two

I find myself, as I lose myself in You

And I love You with all my heart

And I love You with all my soul

And I love You with all my mind and all my strength

So I can love everyone I see

Because Your love is living in me

I want the world to know that You love them so

And it can all begin with me.

In the panic of a storm

When I come to You

I feel so safe and warm

When You come to me

Though there is chaos all around

Rest and peace in You I’ve found

You’re in control

That’s all I need to know

And as I question, “Will I fall?”

There is NO QUESTION at all

That you are able, to save and rescue me

And I trust You with all my heart

And I trust You with all my soul

And I trust You with all I have and all I am

So I can trust everyone I see

Because Your love takes care of me

I want the world to know that You love them so

And it can all begin with me.

In my failures and success

When I come to You

I am no more, I am no less

When You come to me

I have no talent You did not give

To please You is why I live

With all I have and with all I am

I lay my trophies at Your feet

My joys with you are twice as sweet

It’s all for You, You gave my gifts to me

And I rejoice in You with all my heart

And I rejoice in You with all my soul

And I rejoice in You with all my mind and all my strength

So I can rejoice with everyone I meet

With no one on earth do I have to compete

I want the world to know that You love them so

And it can all begin with me.

In my loss and in my grief

When I come to You

I feel such comfort and relief

When You come to me

Though I wish this cup could pass from me

You know best how things should be

In Your great love, You work all things for good

And though my heart feels it will break

Upon Your wisdom I will wait

As You work our Your good and perfect plan

And I will wait on You with all my heart

And I will wait on You with all my soul

And I will wait on You with all my mind and all my strength

So I can serve everyone I see

Because You have a great plan for me

I want the world to know that You love them so

And it can all begin with me.

In my illness and my pain

When I come to You

I am so glad You know my name

When You come to me

No matter how bad things may be

I know You’ll never leave nor forsake me

You are my help!  And I will never fear.

I’d rather be with You in a bed suffering

Than be without You and have everything

You’re all I want and You are all I need

And I will rest in You with all my heart

And I will rest in You with all my soul

And I will rest in You with all my mind and all my strength

So I pray peace for everyone I meet

Because Your rest is so complete

I want the world to know that You love them so

And it can all begin with me.
