Stop Calling God’s Handiwork Ugly

There are so many beautiful things in this world. God has blessed us with a universe and a world filled with sights that are pretty, and many that will take your breath away.

Maybe you have been blessed to visit some of the more famous ones; the Blue Ridge Mountains or the Redwood Forest. Or maybe you have simply looked up into a night sky and been in awe at the wonder of the stars.

It is not uncommon at all for people to take pictures of these sights, post them on social media, and give God the credit for the wonder and beauty of it all. And rightly so!

But how many of us then turn around, look at ourselves in pictures from the same vacation, and only see something ugly?

It is tragic that we do not see the wonder and beauty of what God has made…in ourselves!

This is not vanity. This is not promoting immodesty. And, yes, there are times we may feel the need to lose (or gain) weight or work on some other aspect of our bodies for the sake of our health.

But it is simply not right for us to claim that God made a creation that is beautiful and then call the one thing that was “very good” the only ugly part of that same creation!

As wondrous as those mountains are and as awe-inspiring as huge forests might be, they are going to burn up one day. You are the only part of creation that is made in the very image of God and you will live everlastingly.

Sure, your hair may not be the color it once was and, yes, you may wish you had a few less pounds. But don’t call what God made in His image ugly! Be grateful for the beauty and wonder He displays in all aspects of His creation…including you.
