How Not to Get Involved
I recently visited a website that I’ve never visited before and don’t plan to visit again. It was the website for Planned Parenthood. For those who may be uninformed, Planned Parenthood supports, performs, and receives generous financial support for aborting infants. According to Planned Parenthood’s annual report for the 2012-2013, they performed 327,166 abortions. Their total revenue for this period of time was a little over $1 billion (yes, that’s a “b”) including $540.6 million from “Government Health Services Grants and Reimbursements.” As I looked at their website, I was especially interested in the tab that was labeled “Get Involved.” Here are the ways they suggested a person could get…

A Response to Emily Letts : Abortion Sermon Transcript
[NOTE: The following is the full manuscript of a sermon I preached at Lebanon Road yesterday. The sermon got several good and thoughtful comments, so I thought I’d share it on here.] Recently, an online video went viral. That’s not anything unusual these days. It seems that, every couple of days, something makes the rounds online and gains a few hundred thousand views. But quite often, these “viral videos” are nothing more than silliness. Maybe it’s a child singing a song from Frozen, or a cat jumping up and down, or someone failing on a TV game show. But none of those are what we are going to talk about…

Kermit Gosnell’s Case Was Not about Abortion?
The trial has been over for a few days, and yesterday the jury in Philadelphia convicted abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell on three counts of first degree murder and one count of involuntary manslaughter. Due to the multiple first degree murder convictions, lawyers are considering seeking the death penalty. For some time, there was an outcry over how little attention the national media was giving this case. The details of the case were awful, and I am not going to reprint the details here (save one subtle reference later in the article), except to remind us that this man was allowing babies to be born, and then was killing them. The…

President Obama’s Forgotten “S”
Yesterday, with all the usual pomp, Barak Obama was ceremonially sworn in for his second term as President of the United States. I say “ceremonially” because he was officially sworn in on Sunday, per the Constitutional provision that a President must be sworn in before noon on January 20. His speech was quite brief, not even reaching 20 minutes in length. However, it made headlines around the world for several things that were said. None hit me so hard, though, as his three “s’s” of civil rights. He stated, We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths — that all of us are created equal — is…

Planned Parenthood and Our Tax Request
In 2012, the organization Planned Parenthood received a record-high amount of federal money, provided from tax payers. The amount, which was over $500,000,000, was the most the organization had ever received from the federal government, and was an 11% increase over 2011. Of course, this group is most well-known for being quite ironically named. In reality, the group should be called “Planned Unparenthood,” since they provide more abortions than any other organization in our nation. Our family vehemently disagrees with the money we are managing for God being used to fund such actions. So, on our 2012 tax return, we are going to say something. Now, we fully intend to…

Mini-Post: Link to New York Times
Siri, Apple’s voice-recognition system, has come under fire. The reason is just one more way to show how far the pro-choice crowd is willing to go. Here is the article: http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/11/30/apple-says-siris-abortion-answers-are-a-glitch/

Friday Links Roundup: Missionary Weekend Edition
This weekend at Lebanon Road is going to be very special. We are having a Missions Weekend. We had one of these two years ago, and we would like to do continue doing this about every other year. Lebanon Road supports 8 full-time missionaries (plus some other works). On this weekend, all eight of these missionaries and their families will be with us for a series of events. There will be meals, meetings with our elders, trips to Christian bookstores, and worship together on Sunday. Our missions committee deserves a great deal of thanks for piecing this together and keeping in contact with our missionaries to make sure all their…

Book Review: “Letters to Darcy”
Originally a series of blog posts, Tracy Ramos’ book is a journal of notes she wrote online to her baby, Darcy, who had a rare prenatal disease. Letters to Darcycontains the full transcript of these posts in chronological order, and that is all it contains. It is very much as if you are reading some one’s diary, and your heart goes the full range of emotions, from joy to extreme sorrow. It is rare that I read a book in one sitting, but I did with this one. I couldn’t stop as I read the heart-wrentching words of Tracy, as she so desired to have Darcy, but knew that, upon her…

Friday Links Roundup: Tell Someone Edition
Yep, it’s time for a shameless plug of our blog. The number of “hits” we get each day are far better than they were a year ago, but, over the last couple of months, they have stagnated. We aren’t about just getting numbers on the blog, but it is encouraging to see more folks coming and seeing what’s here. That’s where you come in. Would you please pass along a favorite post (or just our blog address) to 5 people? If each person who regularly comes would just tell 5 people, we could easily raise our numbers. If that person would like to be on our email list, just send me…

Friday Links Roundup: We Don't Quite Get the Concept Edition
Last night, we went Christmas shopping and out to eat (with cash, of course!). Part of the fun was that we took the kids to see Santa. It was the second time this year they sat on Santa’s lap, and both gave the same list (thankfully!). Turner, however, is having a problem. He loves seeing Santa and sitting on his lap. He loves telling the jolly one that he wants a “hericopter” (helicopter). However, when he gets down from Santa’s lap, he expects the toy to appear right then. We haven’t quite got the “you have to wait until Christmas day” concept yet. Here’s to not sitting on Santa’s lap…
