The Leading Cause of Death
[NOTE: It is very rare that I reproduce my bulletin article for Central as a post on our site. However, I felt this article was one that would benefit the thinking of both, so this article is also my bulletin article for this coming Sunday at Central. I hope it makes us all think. –Adam]
At the end of each year, a mountain of statistics is released, giving a snapshot of the state of various aspects of the world. One of those statistics that can a little difficult to read, but which is still helpful, is to see what the leading causes of death were around the world for the previous 12 months.
One reason it is telling is, because, sometimes something comes up on that list that reminds the world of a major worldwide event. (Just think of a recent pandemic and you get the idea.) In 2024, though, if you were to look at the very top of the list, there would be no real surprises. Things like heart disease, various cancers, and tuberculosis populate the top portions of the list of leading causes of death around the world, as they usually do.
So, why write an article about this subject if the same “normal” things are at the top of the list? It is because the list is not accurate.
According to several sources, the number one cause of death in the world in 2024 was heart disease, which, tragically, killed about 17.9million people. However, there is one cause of death that never seems to be listed on these types of websites or reports. And, tragically, it is the actual leading cause of death in the world. In fact, it dwarfs even the number of deaths from heart disease.
Before I tell you what it is, though, let’s take a little history lesson.
The Second World War is considered the deadliest event in modern history. Considering historians have to account for deaths in the battles themselves, as well as civilian deaths and deaths in various camps, it is impossible to give an exact figure. Estimates, though, range as high as 85,000,000 deaths as a result of that war. However, keep in mind that World War II lasted roughly 6 years, so the number of deaths per year was less than 15,000,000. Each death is a tragedy, but keep that number in mind.
If we go back a few centuries, we read about the Black Death, which was a pandemic of bubonic plague that ravaged Europe and other areas in the mid-1300s. In total, an estimated 50,000,000 died from that horrible disease. However, we must remember that this outbreak lasted about 7 years, so the number of deaths per year was roughly 7,000,000. Again, that number of tragic, but keep it in mind.
Now, this is not to downplay either of those horrific events. But what we need to remember is those massive totals played out over several years. What if I told you that the leading cause of death in 2024 dwarfed those “per year” numbers? Would you be outraged? Would you be scared?
Because it did.
You see, the leading cause of death, worldwide, in 2024 killed at least 45,000,000 human beings. Read that number again, and remember that it happened in one year. And notice the words “at least.” Some estimate the number could be as high as 60,000,000.
But take the conservative number of 45,000,000. To put that number in perspective, that is roughly equal to the entire population of the nation of Argentina. It is also greater than the population of the states of Florida and New York combined.
So, why don’t we hear about this? Why is this not major news? Why aren’t governments flooding the information and media outlets with how we can combat this horrible scourge on humanity?
Because, you see, the leading cause of death in 2024…was abortion.
45,000,000. At least. Dead children.
God help us if we don’t weep for our world. And God help us to keep speaking out for those who cannot speak for themselves.
