Could I Wear that Button?

My daughter loves bling. (Did you think you’d ever see the word “bling” on this site?)

She loves the little jewelry that is made for little girls. Thankfully, it’s plastic and extremely cheap. When she starts seeing real jewelry, well, then there will be a PayPal donate button on our blog!!!

Lately, she has been wearing a piece of bling that I like. It is a little red button that only has three words on it. Each time I see her with that button on her shirt, I have to “amen” the message of her button.

It says, “I’m a blessing.”

As her daddy, I think that’s a huge understatement, of course. This post, though, is not meant to list all the wonderful ways in which Mary Carol blesses our lives or the lives of others.

Instead, I want to ask myself, “Could I wear that button?”

Well, of course, I could get one and put it on. But I just wonder if others would “amen” that button, or if they would wonder why I had it on.

What am I doing each day–every day–to bless the lives of other people?

  • Am I speaking kindly of people, or am I more often gruff and complaining?
  • Do I pray for others on a regular basis, or do I just take my own needs to God?
  • Am I providing a helping hand or always asking for a handout?
  • Do I visit, call, write, text, and email those who might be hurting, or do I just expect others to do that for me when I’m in a difficult spot?
  • Am I trying to reach someone who is lost in sin, or do I just expect that they’ll walk through the doors of our church building one of these days?

You see, when you look at those questions in a personal way, it really causes you to think.

If you would, please leave a comment on today’s post. I want us to build a “list of good works.” What will you do TODAY that will bless the life of someone else? (For me, it will be making a couple of phone calls that I’ve needed to make for some time.)

This evening, I plan to go with one of the elders to visit some members in their homes. I love doing this and hopefully I am as much of a blessing to them as they are to me. Thanks for all you do, Adam! You’re a blessing to so many!
