Ask the Readers: What to Write?
Today’s post is simply a question. Please take a moment to read the question, and then the guidelines, then leave a comment. The question is: What would you like to see us write a post about? That’s right, it’s readers’ choice! My goal is to collect up to 10 of your suggestions and then scatter them throughout the month of July. Here are the guidelines. 1. Leave a comment to this post with a title or theme you would like to see us write about in July. 2. Suggestions must be related to the overall theme of our site: Christian living, family, the Church, etc. 3. We will not write posts…

Consider God Without…
God is truly remarkable. While He is “not far from any one of us” (Acts 17:27), still He is unfathomable in all His attributes. Those first lines are ones that we agree with, but I want us to consider a struggle we often face in our society. We need to consider, ponder, and contemplate God without thinking of how to “market” Him. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not against a congregation considering ways to make sure the local community knows of its presence. Congregations are wise when they think of making sure they are visible. But that’s not what I’m talking about. I think many Christians have gotten so caught…

He Understands
Each time I read through the four accounts of the Gospel, I learn. Further, I am encouraged more and more by many things. In recent months, though, I have been so deeply encouraged by this simple fact: Jesus understands. He truly does understand. If you have ever felt betrayed, Jesus understands. If you have ever been frustrated by friends, Jesus understands. If you have ever been hungry or thirsty, Jesus understands. If you have ever prayed, “Get me out of this!” Jesus understands. If you have ever had a friend question you, Jesus understands. If you have ever felt the need to just get away, Jesus understands. If you have…

There is Still Lots of Good!
I was once told to just come right out and say what you are going to say right from the start. So, here it is: The Lord’s Church in America Isn’t Dead. There. I said it. I read reports about declining membership. I hear people talk all the time about how we “can’t get folks” to come to VBS or Gospel Meetings or even to Sunday night services. I see people talk about the “graying” of the Church, speaking of how most congregations are filled with mostly older folks. But brothers and sisters, this is the Lord’s Church, not ours. Before we start preaching the Church’s funeral in America, we…

Satan’s Greatest Deception
Let’s give credit where it is due, though it is awful to consider: Satan is very good at what he seeks to do. If we as Christians were as persistent and effective at our job of teaching and encouraging, this would be a very different world. Paul tells us that we are not ignorant of the devices that Satan uses (2 Corinthians 2:11). If we will just “be sober” and “be vigilant” (1 Peter 5:8), we can see how the devil operates. Some of his tactics are overt and clear. While things like prostitution, cold-blooded murder, and lying in a courtroom may be obvious sins, they still are done by…

Change Cameras
Life is ever-changing. We are always either moving to something or away from something. Things are either improving or going downhill. We are either drawing closer to God, or we are drifting away from Him (though He is always there). However, we have a tendency in life to only see a “snapshot.” We look at where we are and can only think about that moment. While that is good in some ways, it can also cause us certain problems. If we are in a time when things are going well, we can take that snapshot and begin to get complacent. Things are good, and there is no reason to change…
