Back…With Great News
What a great week at Maywood! The campers–especially our older campers–were great. It wasn’t too hot, and everyone seemed to just “roll with the punches.” The best news of all is that 17 precious souls were baptized into Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins. One of those, Melody Brinson, has been visiting with us at 9th Avenue for quite some time. We were so pleased that she decided to become a New Testament Christian. In addition, 3 souls made public confessions. Two of those, Ariana Hatton and Krista Terry, are members at 9th Avenue. And only the Lord knows how many more made private prayers asking for strength…

Last Post for Awhile
As you read in the article about Maywood yesterday, our group leaves for Maywood on Sunday. So…… 1. I have left my posts for next week for Where Your Treasure Is with Joey Sparks and he is going to post them for me (thanks, Joey). 2. Please still come to this blog and “catch up” on the latest posts. Also, keep visiting the sponsors. 3. I probably won’t post at all next week; unless someone at camp has a wireless connection (ha!), and I have the time (ha! ha!) and the energy (ha! ha! ha!). Sorry for the break between posts, but we want you to stay informed.

Evolution's Next "Step"
For many years, students have been taught that bipedalism (walking on two feet) was a distinguishing characteristic of humans from ancestors. Evolutions have said over and over that, once ape-like ancestors moved from the trees to the ground, they starting walking upright. It was known as the “savannah hypothesis.” Now, though, we are being told something different. Some English scientists are saying that earlier monkeys walked basically upright while still living in trees. This “news” has caused much confusion in the evolutionary camp. Sad, isn’t it? Evolutionists have to change their theory–even major components of their theory–with nearly every discovery. Why not just realize that it’s all a futile effort…

Psalm 1
It is my goal over the next 150 days to read one Psalm each day (in addition to my regular Bible reading and other reading). Most of the Psalms are quite brief, but, as you well know, contain great power! They are truly great treasures. I hope to publish a few brief devotional thoughts from each of the psalms as I get a chance. These will not be anything profound, but may help you in your own Bible study. Psalm 11. I’ve been fascinated for a long time with the progression that is seen in verse 1 (“walks,” “stands,” “sits”). I use this verse often to talk to young people…

Two Milestones
Just a quick post to let you know about 2 milestones taking place today. First, June 1, 2007, marks the beginning of our 7th year with the 9th Avenue church of Christ. It’s hard to believe, but on June 1, 2001, we were unloading a very rickety and nasty U-Haul van and beginning our work. Six full years have now past. We are very blessed. The other milestone will come as no surprise to our regular readers. Where Your Treasure Is is now up and running, and, at the time of this writing, already has 5 introductory posts (and over 20 hits). Please visit there today!

Tomorrow's the Big Day!
After much planning and effort, the new blog for Christians and personal finance is set to launch tomorrow. James Dalton, Joey Sparks, Wes Hazel and I are all looking forward to this day. We have spent many hours preparing through study, email and phone. As we have done with this site now, there is a button in the upper-right hand corner of the new blog for you to use if you’d like an RSS feed. There are also buttons for you to use if you’d like to add the blog to your favorites at Technorati. Our first posts are supposed to be up no later than 9 AM, so join…

More New Features
Two new things for you to make use of on our blog: 1. First, we have added an RSS feeder to the upper right-hand corner. Many are now using these to know when content is added to their favorite blogs, so we thought it would be helpful for you. If you another reader (Yahoo, Google, AOL, etc.), please let us know. We have the capability of adding just about any reader that is out there. Just send us an email and we’ll get it added as quickly as we can. 2. Also, we have added our blog to the Christian Blogosphere. This is a set of blogs all written from…

Why Attend Christian Camp? (Bulletin Article for June 3)
Each summer many young people from 9th Avenue decide to attend Maywood Christian Camp. We “push” this event through this newsletter, announcements and short statements in Bible classes and at devotionals. But why? Why is it such a good thing for our young people to attend a Christian camp? First, because the emphasis is on “Christian” and not “camp.” While we enjoy the outdoors and the cabins, they are not the focus. Christ is the focus of our week. Each lesson and activity is planned to help young people see Him. Second, because each camper is taught how to be a “Christian” camper. While not every camper is yet a…

Faughnblog Article Featured
I submitted my recent Memorial Day article to a blog “carnival” (basically a large collection of articles on a similar subject). I’m proud to say that it was accepted and listed with the links. To see all the links (mine is about 2/3 of the way down), click on this post from ParableMan. We hope to submit more articles to this carnival, which you may learn more about by clicking here.

Hate Mail for Record-Setting Hunter
In case you missed it, a young man in Arkansas killed what is believed to be the largest hog ever hunted down and killed in America. The wild hog was about 10 feet in length and weighed in at an astounding 1051 pounds! (See picture here) Figures, though: the young man has been receiving hate mail and email since. Here’s one example from his website (where, to his credit, he publishes both positive and negative responses): Just a quick question, You attend a Christian college and yet kill so freely. Does not the Old Testament say ‘do unto others’ I have To ask the question, if said boar ran for…
