A Little Housekeeping
I have had a couple of people tell me recently that they have had trouble getting on the blog at different times. In fact, just this morning, I couldn’t get on! I do not know the reason for this trouble, but I hope to find out soon. In the meantime, please continue to check back often. Thank you for your continued reading of the articles found on here.

Just Wondering
Leah took this picture from our front porch this evening. I was just wondering if anyone could honestly look at something in nature as beautiful as this and honestly argue that there is no Designer behind it all. “Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made…then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee; how great Thou art!”

Perfect! (Bulletin Article for March 12)
NOTE: I do not usually post my bulletin articles that are basically announcements. However, I wanted to put this one on the blog for two reasons. First, I wanted to give more credit those the people mentioned in the article. They have earned some special recognition. Second, I wanted you, the reader, to consider my concluding thoughts about families at the end of the article. We had a very good number of people who were present for every Sunday Bible class in the Winter quarter (December-February). With Christmas and New Year’s both falling on Lord’s days, many were away visiting family, but we trust they still took time to worship God…

Scary Language
On Sunday night the Academy Awards were handed out in Los Angeles. The big moment came when “Brokeback Mountain” did NOT win “best picture,” and neither did “Capote.” Instead, the film “Crash” took top honors (although Brokeback did win for best adapted screenplay). There was another award that was quite shocking, however. That award was for “best original song.” Nearly every movie uses either original songs or scores to help tell the story being portrayed on the screen. Some of those have been burned into our minds, never to be forgotten again (after all, who can forget those two notes when “Jaws” was approaching?). I hope, though, that this is…

Missed an Issue?
The newest issue of “For Youth Ministers, By Youth Ministers” was released this morning. The circulation continues to grow. 56 received the newsletter in January, 157 in February, and 195 in March! We are very proud of that growth. If you have missed an issue, you may see the back issues. Michael Jackson, the youth minister for the Winfield (AL) church of Christ, has a link on the congregation’s youth website where you may access the January and February issues. If you would like to start receiving the newsletter at no charge each month through email, contact Kurt Hankins by emailing him at kurt@vernon-churchofchrist.org. If you would like to see…

Sin's Encroachment (Bulletin Article for March 5)
The story of David and Goliath is one of the most well-loved stories in all the Bible. The faith that David had to face up to this mountain of a man is truly awesome. One of the facets of that story that intrigues me, though, is the gall of the giant. Here is how David was introduced to this man: “There was the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, coming up from the armies of the Philistines” (First Samuel 17:23). You will recall how this giant continued to taunt the army of Israelites over and over. He even went so far as to defy the Israelites using his…

Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover
Titles have always intrigued me. While I am not the best at coming up with titles, I am drawn to certain books or articles based solely on the title. There is a popular book that, it seems, is trying to draw readers based solely on its title, and it is working. The name of the book is Conversations with God by Neale Walsh. There is a follow-up version that is also very popular entitled Conversations with God for Teens. Many times a “Christian” writer will use a snappy title like these and the book will contain some good, even if the volume is not written by a member of the…

Something You Must Read
Recently, I came across a two-part article on the web about the youth culture of today. World Net Daily’s Vice President, David Kapulian, wrote this amazing story. I want to warn you before you read this article, though, that it will scare you and, quite possibly, shock you (especially part 2). Any young people who are reading this, please do not read this article without an adult’s permission. In fact, it would be better for an adult to read it first. I made the mistake of reading the article backward (I read part 2 first). Do not make that mistake. The link found below takes you to part one. It…

That Tiny Ark (Bulletin Article for February 26)
How often have you looked at a painting or drawing of the ark built by Noah and thought, “that thing was huge”? Compared to most sea-going vessels with which we are familiar, the ark was a very large structure. For its day it was simply colossal! Nothing of its size had ever been seen in the ship-building world and, in fact, nothing its size would be seen again until the 1800s AD. However, take that huge vessel and place it on the Arctic Ocean, the smallest of the four oceans in our modern world. How big does it look now? Place that same massive “floating zoo” on the Pacific Ocean.…

A Big Moment for Mary Carol
That’s right…that’s not rice cereal or formula on Mary Carol’s cute little chin. That’s her first baby food! Oh yeah, and the bib is correct as well…she sure does love her Mommy!
