“Greater Things” Thursday #31: Back to School Service
Lebanon Road’s 2011 theme is “Greater Things.” For an introduction and video to this theme, click here. Each Thursday, we are highlighting an area in which we are striving for greater things. —————————– This week’s “greater thing” has already happened, but I wanted to tell you about it, because it was new to us. One of our members gave us the idea, and it was a wonderful one. The elders approved, and work was underway. It was our Back to School Service. We did this last Sunday night, and it was quite simple. It was, however, seen as a great success, and very encouraging to our students. Here is what…

“Greater Things” Thursday #30: Give Away Day
Lebanon Road’s theme for 2011 is “Greater Things.” For an introduction and video to the theme, click here. Each Thursday, we are highlighting an area in which we are striving to meet this theme. ————————————— For several years, Lebanon Road has hosted a day in which we simply give things away to those in the community who need them. Some years in the past, we have had huge give-away days with clothes, furniture, and other items. However, over the past few years, the day has changed somewhat, and it is very effective. Each year, some of our young adults collect money and purchase mountains of common school supplies (paper, folders,…

The July 10: Monthly Roundup
It’s the last Friday of the month, and that means it is time for the monthly 10….although this month we have 12…links. Enjoy the ride. Wait…you can’t count to 10? I can, it’s just that I have 2 bonus links for you this month. I was honored to be asked to submit two guest posts to brotherhood blogs this month, and I wanted to share those with you. First, Michael Whitworth asked me to contribute an article to his 29 Days of Psalms series. I wrote about the shortest psalm of them all, Psalm 117. Here is that post. Second, Heritage Christian University asked me to contribute to their blog…

“Greater Things” Thursday #29: Teachers’ Workshop
Lebanon Road’s 2011 theme is “Greater Things.” For an introduction and video to the theme, click here. Each Thursday, we are focusing on an area in which we are striving for greater things. —————————- The Bible school program at Lebanon Road is wonderful! Our teachers do a great job, and many of our ladies help make sure that our teachers have materials ahead of time, so they can be prepared with stories, games, crafts, and other materials to make our classes informative and engaging for our students. But teachers need encouragement, too. So, one of our new works for this year is a teachers’ workshop. It is this Saturday, and…

“Greater Things” Thursday #28 : Youth Mission Trip
Lebanon Road’s 2011 theme is “Greater Things.” For an introduction and video to the theme, click here. Each Thursday, we are highlighting a different area in which we are striving for greater things. ——————————– Each Summer, our youth minister, one of our elders, and our summer intern work out the details on a mission trip for our young people. They usually go late in July, as the final “big” event before school starts back. This year, our group leaves this Saturday, and will return in the middle of next week. One of the things that makes our mission trips unique is that our group always visits and works with one…

“Greater Things” Thursday #27 : Lebanon Road Bible Camp
Lebanon Road’s 2011 theme is “Greater Things.” For an introduction and video to this theme, click here. Each Thursday, we are highlighting a different area in which we are striving to achieve greater things. ———————————— Church camp!!! I love Church camp, and at Lebanon Road, we have a wonderful camp. When I first moved here, I was confused. You see, for years, I had attending camp and there were campers and counselors from several different congregations. However, at Lebanon Road, we do “our own” camp. The campers (except for a few) are from Lebanon Road. The counselors are from here. The cooks are from here (and cook amazing food). The…

“Greater Things” Thursday #26: Summer Youth Intern
Lebanon Road’s 2011 theme is “Greater Things.” For an introduction and video to this theme, click here. Each Thursday, we are highlighting a different area in which we are striving for greater things. ————————– During the summer months, many congregations hire at least one “intern” to learn on the job and help the congregation out, as the student goes through school. Lebanon Road has been doing this for a few years now, and the young men we have had have been tremendous workers and helpers. Each summer, we hire one young man to work alongside our youth minister, JD Buckner. Our intern becomes JD’s “right hand man” in this very…

The June Links Review
Welcome to our first monthly “links review.” If you are new to our blog, for several years we had a “Friday Links Roundup” each week. However, I recently realized that I was doing more reading only to find posts for the roundup, instead of reading for my own growth and information. So, we have decided to do this only monthly. The results have been fantastic. I was able to add feeds to my rss reader, and feel as if I could read them whenever I wished. Currently, there are exactly 100 feeds in my rss reader, and I have read at least 95% of all the words published on all…
