Cousins’ Camp (CC) 2022 Is In The Books

Year number 10 for Cousins’ Camp for the Faughn clan is over. It was marked with the theme “Decade of Memories,” and we had a blast! Turner designed our T-shirts this year and did a great job.

To mark this being our tenth year, each of the grandchildren (minus Luke who is interning this summer with the Westside church of Christ in Salem, Virginia) made a collage of pictures of CC throughout the last nine years. I spent hours with the picture albums and books making color copies of all of their activities. I laughed a lot and I cried sometimes as I went through and selected the pictures. Those memories are priceless.

Each of the grandchildren were given a large frame, a stack of pages containing pictures of each year, scissors, and removable glue dots. They loved doing this project because it reminded them of so many things we have done in past years. They laughed a lot while making these keepsakes.

My favorite part was seeing how they have grown over the last ten years. Oh, they’ve grown physically for sure – all but one are taller than me (and I’m not short!). We even had some toothless pictures.

The best growth I saw in those pictures and in person this year was spiritual growth. Jim did the devotional the first night they were here and did a great job (as usual), but our two grandsons who were here (Daniel and Turner) gave devotionals the next two days that were outstanding. They also led us in singing and in prayer. What a blessing it is from God that all of our grandchildren are faithful Christians. Watching them grow in their faith makes my heart so happy.

I pray that you don’t take this as bragging about our family. It certainly isn’t meant to be that at all. I’m hoping it will encourage someone who may read this to focus upon teaching the children in your family about the importance of your earthly family and, more importantly, the value of being part of a spiritual family. Instilling within our children faith in God and His love for us by sending His Son to die for us, should be the ultimate goal for dads, moms, grandmothers, grandfathers, and others who value the souls of children.

We had some talks in those days they spent with us about being there for one another throughout life, depending upon one another in happy and sad and hard times. Being part of an earthly family should be like that. Being part of a spiritual family should be the same way. The foundation of a close earthly family should replicate a close spiritual family. God is our Father and Jesus is our older Brother.

Cousins’ Camp is fun, but knowing we are bound to one another physically and spiritually makes the last ten years of CC worth every minute.

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other, as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” (Col. 3:12-14)
