Friday Links Roundup: Party Like It’s 19….EIGHTY-NINE Edition

Okay, so this is an off-the-radar college basketball introduction to this week’s links, but it was worth sharing. When I first really got into college hoops was about the time Loyola Marymount made their magical run to the Elite Eight, though the best player on the team, Hank Gathers, had died during the season. The famous image from that year was his best friend and teammate, Bo Kimble, shooting one free throw in each game with his left hand, in honor of his fallen buddy. (See video below)

Late last night, LMU did the unthinkable, and upset highly-ranked Gonzaga. For a brief few moments, it was a great memory of a great moment in hoops history. By the way, as a really rare reference to hoops history, my favorite player on that Bo Kimble-led LMU team was Jeff Fryer. Only Duke’s J.J. Redick is even in the same ballpark with Fryer’s ridiculous 3-point shooting ability.

Yes…it’s almost March!!!

Okay, enough with the rare hoops references, and on to the links for this week:

1. For Middle Tennessee, we’ve had quite a bit of snow this winter, and it has caused many delays and difficulties. Nicoll Burleson wants us to think again about some of those delays, though, in her post, “Snow, According to Me.”

2. Neil Richey shares a very interesting story, and one I hope you’ll include in your prayers, in his post “She Was Almost Persuaded to be a Christian.”

3. One of the frightening things about the “cyber-era” is the possibility of a hacker stealing information. Tim Hall at Forthright Magazine uses that idea for a powerful post entitled “Hacking into My Life.”

4. Ever felt totally stressed and overwhelmed? Ever thought you could do it all on your own, only to learn the hard way that you couldn’t? Heather Fortenberry opens her heart in a great post entitled, “Impossible.”

5. I try to use several Bible verses each time I preach. While I don’t want to be a “concordance preacher,” I do want to back up all I say with Scripture. Many in the larger “Christian” world are trying to do the same, but are running into a problem: they are being told to cut back on the Bible! Mark Galli, a writer for Christianity Today, explores the problem in “Yawning at the Word.”

We hope you have a great weekend. As a special note, sometime this weekend, I’ll be posting a book review of a volume I got for free from booksneeze.com. To continue to receive books for free from them, I have to review the books in a “stand-alone” post (no multiple reviews). The post will probably go up tonight or tomorrow, but I won’t be sending out any info via email, Facebook or Twitter. Just check back if you are interested.

If you are near Nashville, stop by and see us at Lebanon Road! We’d love to have you visit with us. No matter where you are, make sure you worship the Lord on His Day.
