Greater Things Thursday #1: Sunday Bible Class

[On Thursdays in 2011, we are going to feature a “great thing” at Lebanon Road, to reinforce our “Greater Things” theme for this year. Since many of our readers are members of Lebanon Road, we hope this gives motivation for a wonderful year of service in God’s Kingdom.]

At about 10:15 each Sunday morning, our period of worship ends. A few minutes later, for about 40 minutes, we meet in several classes throughout our building to study God’s Word together. While a vast majority of congregations have periods of Bible study together, I am so proud of Lebanon Road and the emphasis we place on this part of our work. Here are several reasons.

1. Preparation. Teachers are prepared, but they are also given materials to teach each lesson in classes for our children and young people. Several of our ladies come to the building regularly to prepare “bags” of materials for our classes, so our teachers can have activities and crafts prepared ahead of time. Below is a picture of some of these bags, just ready to be taken down and taught to our children!

But, our teachers are also prepared. They take these things, study God’s Word, and prepare lessons for those who are in their classes, from babies to the young at heart.

2. Bible emphasis. Our children are walked through the entire Bible, and given a background in both the Old and New Testaments. Our teens are taught lessons from the Bible that are needed for their lives. Our adults study deeply from God’s Word. We truly have Bible class, and we make sure that any topical study is anchored in Biblical principles.

3. Diversity. We have several adult classes, and each studies something different. This provides many opportunities for study of books and topics that are helpful for many circumstances.

4. Loving teachers. Our teachers (and there are a LOT), love teaching, and they love sharing with their students. My kids are given hugs and high fives constantly from their teachers, and it is obvious that our teachers enjoy this labor of love.

Those are just a few reasons why Bible class is great…but in 2011, we want it to be even Greater! Greater attendance. Greater devotion. Greater emphasis in prayer.

Lebanon Road folks, let’s make this an even greater year in an already GREAT Bible school program!

A project from a children's class. They drew something that God made. Great job!
