Monumental?

There have been many adjectives used to describe this week’s election and the results. Before I go farther, this is not a political post no matter how the beginning sounds. As I drove to work on Wednesday morning, I considered the description listed as our title for today.

I have some family members who love history and think it is just neat to have repeated something that has only happened one other time in our nation’s history – a president elected to serve 2 non-consecutive terms. The other was Grover Cleveland, a Democrat back in the late 1800s. (See, guys, I do pay some attention.) I know and love some people who feel that the Democrat should have prevailed again this time, while others I know and love are relieved she didn’t.

I can see why many feel that this week’s election was monumental. But what struck me as I drove to school Wednesday morning was how “un-monumental” the day felt. Besides being surprised we already knew the election’s outcome, nothing was that strange. I was driving the same car, on my usual route, enjoying the beautiful colors of autumn.

While I love being an American and am thankful I had a voice in this week’s decision about our future, I am struck that, as a Christian, what happened this week wasn’t that monumental. Was it historic? Sure. Will it impact Americans? Yes. Does it decide my eternal destiny – absolutely not.

Friends, there is a King to Whom every knee on earth (not just in America) will bow one day. I would much rather spend time introducing you to Him. He is the One Who can truly make a monumental difference in your life. If people would spend even a fraction of the time researching facts and predictions about what His book says as they did this one election, I think the world would be in a much better place.

Here is my monumental question: Do you know my Jesus? If not, can I tell you about Him and the difference He can make in everyone’s life?
