The Name Shows The Sin
This is being released on day 8 of 30, but the buildup to it makes it feel as if we are several more days into it. Much of what is being done will be done again later this year for yet another full month, so that fully one-sixth of our calendar is filled with expressions of affirmation and acceptance.
It is, of course, “Pride” Month. Rainbows are everywhere, as are more multi-colored flags and logos. Social media is ablaze with all manner of icons and colors and memes meant to show support. Businesses, sports teams, and governmental leaders are bending over backward to show how accepting they are of this lifestyle.
And Christians are stuck right in the middle, seeing it happen all around. We know it represents sin, as Scripture makes it clear that God made people male and female and that it is to be a man and woman who come together in the sexual union, and that only in the confines of marriage. We know that, but our culture presses around us with every possible affirmation of the ever-expanding array of letters, and that frighteningly ubiquitous “+” on the end.
But what people do not seem to want to think about is that those who are pressing this agenda have already admitted their sinfulness, whether they want to or not. Certainly, they do not think of anything under the banner of “LGBTQ+” (or, as is now being pushed, “LGBQAI+”) as sinful. They see nothing wrong with any of it. They believe it should be celebrated, promoted, indoctrinated into our children, normalized, and pressed at every turn. In fact, they would say that, to stand against it in any way is what is actually wrong, harmful, and (dare I say it) even sinful.
What they fail to realize, though, is that they have already given up the point that it is sinful.
How can I say that? Because they named it “Pride” month.
Pride is sinful.
Pride is wrong.
Pride is the root of all other sins.
Listen to Scripture:
“Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked are sin” (Proverbs 21:4).
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace” (Proverbs 11:2a).
“God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6; Proverbs 3:34).
So, I will not participate in this month’s celebrations and affirmations in the least. Yes, that is because homosexuality and all the other related sins that are being promoted are sinful. But it is also because they have already tipped their hand by saying they are filled with pride…and that’s a side I certainly do not want to be on.
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you” (James 4:10).
