Pictures of Our Columbus Trip, and a Preview for Next Week
This week, our family had a great time in Columbus, Georgia. It was a very busy trip, but tons of good things happened. I was holding a Gospel Meeting for the Edgewood Church of Christ, and the week was full and rich! First, I spoke some 11 times during the four days, so I am a bit drained. However, the congregation was gracious enough to allow me to have some time with Leah and the kids, so we took several outings during the day to museums and other places. We were also blessed to spend quite a lot of time with David, Rachel, Micah, and Sarah Dixon. David preaches for…

Ryan Christopher Anderson
Today’s post is a bit different, but I hope you will read all the way to the end. I want to tell you about Ryan. When we moved here, Ryan was one of the first ones in our house. Nearly from day one, he helped us get to know more about local news and places to shop and eat. Since we were not from Nashville, this was a huge help. He seemed to know everything about everything: local sports teams, restaurants, stores, churches…everything. Sadly, from day one, Ryan also decided to drop a few bad words in his conversations, even when the kids were around. We tried to drop a…

Share the Spotlight
Christians are a community, and we lean on one another often. The New Testament uses all sorts of imagery to point out this community aspect of the faith (household, kingdom, etc.). Within that community, some will be honored at times. It may be on the job, or it may be a school accomplishment. Some may be selected for a great civic honor, while others may simply have a reputation of being a pillar in the community. It is Biblical for us to consider those who receive honors and to show our admiration for them (cf. Romans 13:7). Today, though, I am asking for those who have gained a “spotlight” to…

How to Encourage a Blogger
You are amazing! Yesterday, for the second time in just 3 weeks, we shattered our record for most visits to the blog. The numbers on “bad” days are now more than we used to get on pretty good ones. For that, we say a sincere “thank you.” Your visits are so encouraging, but I’d like to share with you some other ways to encourage your friends who blog. Since blogging is a very crowded space, it is hard to get noticed. And it can be highly frustrating, as well. There are now some 42million blogs just using WordPress alone (!), so getting “heard” is very hard. How can you encourage…

Thank You for Modest Ladies
Last Saturday was the greatest day of the year: Leah’s birthday. It was quite the unusual day, though, as I conducted a funeral midday. Also, since it was Saturday, we had to get home a little earlier than normal, so I could look over my sermon notes. (See what preacher’s wives go through?) Anyway, we were at a local mall, when Leah started talking about something that was upsetting her. I was oblivious, and it was a good time to be so. In front of us were two girls, probably around 20 years of age, who were wearing shorts that nearly redefined “short.” She told me that a man holding…

Blog Hop: Podcasts We Like
Today’s post is very special, because it is a “blog hop.” Five blogs are all writing on the same topic, and we hope you will check each one out. The topic today is simply podcasting. Five writers are each listing the podcasts (by category) they listen to, and linking to where you can find the information about that podcast. At the bottom of the post is the link to the other writers who are involved. MY PODCAST LIST #1: Brotherhood Podcasts (produced by members of Churches of Christ) Ashville Road Church of Christ (Drew Kizer) Bear Valley Church of Christ Sermoncast (Neal Pollard) Behind the Pulpit (The Equip Network)…

God’s Holiness: The One Attribute We Need to Understand
If you were to survey a random sampling of people in your community and ask them, “What is the one character trait you most associate with God,” the top answer you would likely get is “love.” To be fair, if you were doing such a random questioning in the general population, you would probably also get “hate” as an answer. If the same question were asked in any congregation, “love” would probably be #1, and that by a wide margin. I, too, can’t think enough of God’s love. It is matchless, amazing, and unending. It shows itself in His grace, mercy, and forgiveness. But love is not the singular attribute…
