7 Reasons I’m Attending the FHU Bible Lectures
Next week, Lord willing, my family and I will be at the annual Bible lectureship at Freed-Hardeman University. While we cannot attend for the entire week, we are excited about going for most of the sessions. The FHU lectures are on our “every year” list of events. We simply do not miss it. Why? It is more than just “we went to school there.” Here are 7 reasons we always attend and mark our calendar months in advance for the following year. 1. A Deeply Biblical Emphasis. Each year, a theme is chosen, based upon a specific book (or section) of the Bible. That theme is more than in name…

Summer Series #1: “Summer Blog” by Justin Smith
[NOTE: For the next four Tuesdays, we will be running a series of posts by four great young adults. Each is a student at Freed-Hardeman University, and each is spending the summer doing anything but taking a vacation. I hope their words encourage you to use all your time for the Lord.] Our first post comes from Justin Smith. You can visit his Tumblr site here. ——————————————————- This summer I am working as a summer youth intern at West 7th Street Church of Christ under Jerry Elder. The church is in Columbia, Tennessee, and I’m from Gadsden, Alabama, so I am living with another family for the summer away from…

Friday Links Roundup: “Live from Henderson, It’s iPreach!” Edition
For about 18 months, Dale Jenkins and I have cohosted iPreach, the podcast for preachers. We have done about 65 episodes covering many topics to help ministers in their work. Our estimates now are that about 200 people listen to most programs, either live, via the talkshoe.com website, or through iTunes. One thing we have never done, though, is recorded by together! We have never been in the same room when recording the program. Lord willing, that will all change Tuesday night. Freed-Hardeman has granted us the ability to do a live version of iPreach from the FHU Student Center! We will begin about 8:45 Tuesday night, and anyone and…

Friday Links Roundup: Snow, Buzz and Corinthians Edition
I’m typing the links roundup from home this week. As I look out my window, a little snow has started to fall, but we are expecting quite a bit more later in the day. That’s not the reason I’m at home, though. Leah has an appointment this morning, so I’m watching the kids. While I’m excited about it, there could be some interesting challenges. You see, we are also going to record iPreach this morning. Along with guests Billy Smith, Marlin Connelly, and Clarence DeLoach, Dale and I will be previewing the Freed-Hardeman University Bible lectures. So, while we discuss the lectures and their theme books of First and Second Corinthians, the…

Listen to Lectures
One of the highlights of my year is the annual Freed-Hardeman Bible Lectureship. However, there are many other lectureships throughout the brotherhood each year. Several of these are now available on iTunes, and most in their entirety! While listening isn’t the same as attending, being able to hear these lessons is a great way to learn more of God’s Word either on your computer or iPod/iPhone. Here are a few examples. [Clicking on the links will open the blog or website for each series. You can listen to these directly from your computer or find them in iTunes. You don’t need an iPod/iPhone to hear these great lessons.] 1. Bear Valley Bible…

Friday Links Roundup: Great Piece of Mail Edition
I check the mail every day. (Yes, I am a creature of habit, and I’m proud of it.). We don’t get a ton of mail. We get about 7 church bulletins each week, as well as a couple of magazines each month. Of course, we get our bills (yuck), but that’s about it. It’s always encouraging to get a card or note, and those come from time-to-time. Yesterday, though, we got a piece of mail that we are considering scanning in and keeping forever. It was a letter from our insurance company. It stated that they had reviewed our claim (again, for the fourth time), and were siding in our…
