Legacy Recipe: Italian Soup [Free Printable]
This polar vortex is not for wimps! Maybe the cold weather has made you wish for a new soup recipe in order to get warm. This one is a hybrid of some recipes I looked at and then adapted. Hope you enjoy! Ingredients: 1 pkg. kielbasa sausage (I use turkey) 1-2 pkgs. frozen cheese tortellini 1 box chicken broth 1 can tomato sauce 1 can tomato soup ½ pkg. frozen chopped spinach Italian seasoning In a large stock pot (or insta-pot) sauté bite-sized pieces of ½ the sausage until browned. Add the box of chicken broth and tortellini. Bring to a boil until tortellini is cooked through, about 5 minutes.…

Shared Thoughts about Servant Hearts
We recently had our first annual Holiday Banquet at our congregation. This was an event planned by those in our congregation who are 64 years old and younger to honor those of us who are 65 and older. It was very well attended and there were lots of members who did a lot of work to execute the plan for this event. There were young children, teens, young adults, young families, middle-aged people, and those on the very doorstep of 65 years of age who worked together to make this evening a success. We had a wonderful dinner and some great entertainment – all done by our members. Those of…

As My Children Get Older…
They are now 13 and 11. Some days, the realization of time passing with them in my home just hits me harder than others. Maybe the holiday season makes me think of it more, but it’s been on my mind a lot lately. I only have a handful of years before these precious arrows are launched into the world. In reality, only then will it be realized whether or not I have prepared them to face Satan’s temptations and a world that is increasingly against virtually everything we stand for. But I have so much I want to teach them. I have so much I want them to learn and…

How Does a Christian Protest?
I have a question for you to consider and answer. Feel free to contact me about it if you wish because I am searching for some opinions on this. Please understand I am seeking what is best in God’s eyes and for myself and the future of our world. I’m trying to figure out in 2018 what a Christian is supposed to do when it comes to speaking publicly against what is an abomination in the eyes of God. I received a call today from someone in our community about something that is happening at our public library. Apparently, a local group of transvestites has been dressing up (mostly men…

If You Want to Cause a Problem
They wanted to be great. They wanted to make a name for themselves. They wanted to see what they could accomplish. So they decided to stick together. They started building. But then everything stopped. There in the plain of Shinar there was a disruption. Even better, let’s call it confusion. After all, that’s what “Babel” means. God interrupted the construction of their project. He crafted the easiest and most reliable way to cause a problem. He made it impossible for them to communicate. Before God brought confusion it says the whole earth was of one language and one speech (Gen. 11:1). It is interesting that Moses distinguishes here between language…

Some Moral Issues that Our World Needs to Address Immediately
I know that there seems to be a constant negativity from the older generation to the younger generation concerning the moral climate of America. Perhaps this makes the young people a little bit put out with the lack of trust extended to them concerning the future. So let me first say to everyone younger than me that we believe in you and that we charge you with the great responsibility of tomorrow. May God be with you and may your lives be protected with the blessings of His peace. We want you to succeed and we wish for the world of tomorrow to be full of hope. That being said,…

Legacy Update: The Reason for the Redesign
If you come to our site regularly, you may have noticed a new look. Today, I wanted to take just a moment and explain this redesign. Earlier this week, our site went down for several hours. That was not out intention! After a lengthy chat with our hosting company, Bluehost, we discovered that our “theme” (that is what gives the site its “look”) was not working. Basically, if our understanding is correct, our theme was not updating as it should and finally just stopped working properly. So, we quickly took steps to bring the site back up, and here we are. The redesign is much more simple, but we hope…

What is the Greatest Challenge for a Preacher?
Many who will be reading these words may be aware that I “retired” from full-time preaching at the end of 2016. I used the quotation marks because I have not stopped preaching altogether. It is just that I am no longer the full-time located preacher for one particular congregation. As I think back on my (almost) forty years of full-time located work and as I consider the role in which I am presently trying to serve, I am aware of any number of challenges faced by preachers of the gospel. It seems to me that many of those challenges would fall under two broad headings: Time management – How does a preacher find…
