Ask the Readers: Podcast Question
I know not many of you listen to a ton of podcasts, but this week’s post is the first of a two-part series that I’m doing on podcasts. Next Wednesday, I will list for you all the podcasts to which I listen. I try to do this about every year or so, because I change from time-to-time. However, this week, I need your input. One of the things I have started trying to do is listen to more podcasts that do not come out daily. I am enjoying some that come out weekly, or even less frequently, but that are still relevant and that update regularly (though not daily…see a…

Seamless Technology in Worship (PtP 2011 Presentation)
Last Wednesday, I was asked to speak at Polishing the Pulpit on the topic “Seamless Technology in Worship.” The class was specifically designed for deacons and was on the “technology track,” but there were members of all types in the room. For this 45-minute presentation, I gave 10 steps to take. The idea was to go from (literally) square one, and then to walk all the way until technology is not only in use, but helpful. Here are the ten steps I gave, with a very brief explanation for each. 1. Plan, and Plan Some More. With technology being something that changes so often, it is going to take planning…

Lebanon Road’s 2011 Camp Video
Get a cup of coffee (or, in my case, water), sit back and enjoy a 26 minute video from our week at Valley View Camp. We are so thankful to Shane Williams, one of our college students, for putting this video together. He did a great job, and we hope you enjoy it! 5 Reasons Why I Blog
Today on The Ministry Geek podcast, the topic was if minsters should blog, and if so, why. As I listened, it reminded me of the roots of this blog. It started as, in many ways, a random set of posts with no real focus. Over the years, this site has changed several times, and has settled into a pattern of topics and subjects that I hope you enjoy. They are what are important to me. But why do I do this? There are so many other things to do, so why take the time each week to post 2,3,4, or even 5 posts? Here are the reasons why I do…

I’m Getting Organized….Again
Organization is a strange part of my life. I am excessively organized when it comes to my schedule. I live by a calendar and clock, and I literally function better when I have a plan. However, when it comes to storage, filing, and similar areas, I am a horrible organizer. I have tried in the past, but always fall off the wagon. I really think one reason is that I have never tried a “complete” organization of my stuff. I’ll work on one area, but another will pile up. Then, when I work on that area, the first area goes back to unorganized. So, over the past few weeks (and,…

Wednesday List: My Current iPhone Apps
I like technology, but I’ll admit that I have no idea how any of it works. I learn a few simple (and I mean simple) steps, and let them help me. While I try out several technologies, I spend very little money, and keep only what helps me. For our list this week, I’m listing the apps I use on my iPhone. PAGE ONE PingChat. I don’t use this app as much as I used to (and I’ll explain why later). This is a text messaging program. If someone else has PingChat, you add them as a contact and the “texts” (called “pings”) are free. I don’t pay for unlimited…

Quick Blog Update
Two quick updates to our blog, just to keep you informed. First, at the top of the page, there is a box called “Where We’ll Be.” This link lists all of our speaking and song leading engagements for 2011. Today, I updated it, so click on it and see where we’ll be! Also, we have brought the Google ads back. I don’t like to leave these up on our blog all the time, but our site is not free to run, and the few times you are willing to click on the ads help us to simply “offset” the cost of hosting the blog. Please help us out that way,…

A Trend I Like to See
Today’s post is very brief, but, hopefully, is a post that will encourage you. I have noticed something more and more lately. Maybe it has been going on for a long time, but I have “keyed in” on it more in the past few weeks. It is a trend on Facebook, and it is seen in the status updates among those who are my “Facebook friends.” Usually, these updates deal with what a person is doing at the time (“So-and-so is walking the dog;” “So-and-so is enjoying a day with family;” and so on). That’s fine, and we all do that every so often. However, I am thankful that I…

Should Your Congregation Use Twitter?
Here is a brief e-book I recently wrote about Twitter. It addresses (1) some Twitter basics, (2) some questions to ask to see if your congregation should use this tool or not, and (3) some tips if you decide to use it. Enjoy… …and, and if you on Twitter, make sure you follow us (@faughn4)!!! Using Twitter Effectively as a Congregation

Equip Network Week Post #4: What Does the Future Hold?
This week, we have taken the time to share The Equip Network (TEN) with you. On Tuesday, we looked at the brief but amazing history of this family of podcasts. On Wednesday, we shared the three “flagship” programs with you. Thursday, we told you about the other three programs that have been available from the time of the launch. But what does the future hold? Will it be just these six programs? Absolutely not! There has already been an amazing number of listeners to the six programs, but there has also been a significant number of show ideas submitted. While not every one of these will eventually become a podcast,…
